Guest guest
Hello Everyone, Just wanted to share what a blessing this diet is!!! My husband was dx'd with colitis 10/09. He started the diet immediately after. He is back to normal; has weaned himself off of asacol, and down to 5 mg/day of prednisone. He saw his dr. this week for a followup, and the dr. said it is not the diet, it's the prednisone. BUT, the dr. wanted to wean him off the prednisone. We were laughing, asking ourselves why, if the prednisone was what was helping him, did he want him off of it? Shrug. So, my husband will continue to wean himself off, and see how it goes. He is staying on the diet for who knows how long. Just so everyone knows, he got the colitis from a cleanse he did (Dr. Schulze Herbdoc.com). It just wiped him right out. He had symptoms for about 2 months before he was dx'd and started the diet. We have learned a lot about just how much sugar is in our diets. I read an article that said before the industrial age, we ate 15 g of sugar/day; now it's more like 189 g/day. http://www.costcoconnection.com/connection/201001#pg37 I also posted asking if there was hope for my cousin's daughter who was told she needed to have a colostomy on Dec.21. She has had Crohn's for 12 years. She started the diet the next day and made it through the holidays. She is continuing on it. Here's her history (right before Dec 21): She was so sick, she wasn't working, couldn't sleep due to 6-7 stools/night; 15-27/day. She wasn't eating (as you can see every time she did, she was in the bathroom). She was hospitalized and put on 40mg/prednisone. After only 2 days on the diet, she saw a decrease in her stools. After about 5 days, she was able to sleep through the night!! She is like a new person!! She sent a pix of a formed stool to her mom's cell phone!! You guys know what that's about. This is so wonderful!! My cousin and I laugh about our clandestine meetings in parking lots as I drop off yogurt starter and Friendship cheese that I get from my co-op. Now, our parents making yogurt, and we are all eating it. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Elaine. I wish I could thank her in person. Instead, I will thank all of you, and our resident expert, Marilyn (who's book I can't wait to buy). Although I haven't posted much, I've been reading and learning. Thank you for all the yummy recipes.. We can have people over and cook a meal that they don't even realize is SCD. I was able to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner for my husband so wasn't left out. The concern and caring that goes on between the people on this group is phenomenal!! The shared experiences and knowledge is so beneficial. I made a long story short. Hang in there, and stick to this diet with fanatical adherence, like the book says.

Guest guest
, Stories like your husband's and your cousin's are one of the main reasons I started this group, and why I spend 40-60 hours a week answering questions. That's so spectacular to hear! (Gotta giggle, though, over smuggling DCCC and yogurt starter!) I like to think Elaine knows every time we post one of these stories! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund At 08:12 PM 1/16/2010, you wrote: Hello Everyone, Just wanted to share what a blessing this diet is!!!
