Dama You are pre op right? There are lots of medicines that can help you now, talk to your PCP. After WLS there's not as many, but then you lose the weight and WOW what a difference. I have screws in my feet, a knee that the doctor was talking knee replacement, Fybromialgia, Arthritis and before surgery it was so hard just to work, or walk from the van to the store and being parked close. The doctor had me on Ibuprofen and Salsalate. For pain and swelling and that helped some. When the pain was severe he put me on Nortripaline, but I had a allergic reaction, so then he just gave me Vicodin. Then after I lost the weight with WLS, it's wonderful. I still have pain because of the things I have, but they have improved a lot. I don't take any thing even when pain is bad, because either it's something I'm allergic to, or we can't because of WLS and Vicodin I just don't want to. So my PCP sent me to a chronic

pain class which teaches you ways to deal with pain. I hope this helps you in some way. If you're pre op and working on the 10%, I started exercising to chair dancing which you exercise setting down, you can get it to use at Health Education at Kaiser or you can buy it there. The more I exercised and got use to it the more it helped the pain. Now I exercise 5 to 7 days a week. I try for 7, but when I miss a day I sure know the difference. Hang in there. Dama,

If you're pre-op, this might help: I find that when I'm doing my Atkins

diet faithfully my joint and back pain is a lot less - it's not just

because of losing weight, either; the change is noticeable within a

couple of days. My doctor couldn't explain why it seemed to work but

as nearly as I've been able to figure it out after a LOT of research,

it's something about the balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats. I also

take fish oil supplements, which help a lot.

Hello, sorry to hear about the pain, but I can totally relate. Im not sure if you trust natural medicine but I can tell you that for myself this has been a Godsend. My grandmother made me a mixture of rubbing alcohol, rosemary, cloves, and (please forgive me Im not too sure what its called in english, but I believe its called rude) its a small little smelly leaf, found in most nurseries.. At the time of my surgery on 9/27, I weighed in at 469, so my knees and back were a mess, I had really bad pulmo issues and am allergic to codeine, so there wasnt much I could take but this stuff really works. You just put a bunch of these things in a bottle of alcohol, shake it up, and rub.. I can also testify to what Donna says, that once teh weight starts coming off it gets a little better. Ive only lost 75lbs, and its already made a HUGE difference. I hope you give this stuff a try, its all natural and cant

hurt.. Good luck!!Donna Jordon wrote:

75 pounds is good, you just keep up the good work. Your weight will keep coming off if you stay on track. Take care. I did it before (one of my " failed " diets!) for about 9 months, more-

or-less. It was the more-or-less that did me in; I initially lost

about 45 lbs. but then it started creeping back up. However, that's

why I'm not freaking about the 10%, because I've lost that much

before and I'm fairly sure I can do it again (and 45 lbs. would put

me well over the 10% I need).

Since then I've still tried to keep processed foods out of my diet.

Varying success on that, but as long as I manage to keep them out and

keep up the fish oil, my legs still do better than they used to.
