Howdy, everyone! I hope you are having beautiful weather today. It's bright & sunny here in central Indiana, just a bit chilly. I've been trying to reduce the clutter in my house, but now I'm wondering if that's such a good idea. Last night I was sleeping in my recliner & had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. One of my dogs was right under the chair & I tripped over him. I have balance problems anyway & started windmilling like crazy to keep from falling, but crashed down onto a concrete hearth in front of my fireplace. Luckily, the hearth was covered with boxes of stuff, a couple of big totebags filled with soft stuff, so it all cushioned my fall! If I'd fallen directly onto the hearth, I probably would have broken something. As it was, I scraped both arms & my back & knocked over the stand that holds my video tapes. It probably would have made a pretty funny video! B.J., the dog, always sleeps in his basket behind my chair, so I wasn't expecting to step on anyone when I got up. But we are both fine.

Sunday, my son Brad & I took his stepson Brannon (11) and my grandkids (5) & his sister (12) to the Purdue University Bug Bowl. This is the largest of its type in the country, maybe the world. The Entomology Dept. sponsors it every year. The highlights for us were the cricket spitting contest (I only made it 6'5", compared to my last effort a few years ago at the State Fair of 9'.), the petting zoo & the "Insects as Food" exhibit. I've sent pictures of & I holding a tarantula--it wasnt bad! I'll post them in the Temporary folder of the NS Photos for those who can't open them. AND . . . . . I ate mealworm stir-fry, chocolate crickets on a stick, mealworm Chex Mix, and cricket cookies! The stir-fry was very good. If someone had asked me last week if I would ever try mealworm stir-fry, I would've said NO WAY! But it looked & smelled good, so I tried it & then had seconds! If you didn't know there were mealworms, you would just think they were little noodles. wouldn't try it, but did & she really liked it. A guy filmed her eating it, then interviewed her. It's supposed to be on the Purdue website in a couple of days. All in all, it was a wonderful day. I had my scooter, so I didn't get too tired, & Brad drove there & back.

So, how was your weekend?!?

Rose,

I looked at the photos; yuck!!!!! I could not hold that creature for any

money in the world. I went to the Outer Banks at the end of last week

and am going to post some photos - I will also send a photo of my broken

toe!

Well, I am going to go and download some photos. Hope everyone enjoys

them.

Terri, we also held a milipede that was about 5" long, a giant cockroach, and a big green tomato hookworm! So the tarantula wasn't so bad!

Rose...Girl, girl, girl...you and them darn bugs! ooooowee, that is nasty.....lol. I don't think I could eat anything you might bring to one of those (virtual or otherwise) parties...not without checking for little critters. You certainly are the adventurous one! When my kids were little we went to a 'bug show' but I hate the critters. Next we'll be hearing about spider stew! lol Sorry to hear about your fall. When I fell down the steps a couple of years ago I fell on the neighbor's recycling bags or I would have been hurt alot worse than I was....which was bad enough...lol. When i first realized I was falling I thought...'Oh, Shit...' and tried to enjoy that part of the fall. You know, the flying through the air part. It's the landing that sucks...lol. Maybe you need to put a bell on each of your pets though if they're laying there in your way

it wouldn't help much... I think as we get older we like our clutter more. Some stuff is just too hard to replace and we understand more about the value of a buck and so forth than when we were younger. I'm better at getting rid of old clothes...probably cuz I keep buying newer fashions. And I have a smaller closet. Take it easy til you feel better and I still wonder how anyone can put a dead(or live) cricket in their mouth...yuck! ...much less eat one! You amaze me at times...lol. hugs S.Rose wrote: Howdy, everyone! I hope you are having beautiful weather today. It's bright & sunny here in central Indiana, just a bit chilly.
