Guest guest
Hi ; Hope it's OK for me to just butt in; I'm in a similar situation as you. My surgeon is 4 hours from me and I'm having surgery in just over a week so I'm still in the midst of pre-surgical testing. There are undoubtably some standard tests that you can take care of with your own personal PCP. That's what I did. I had the blood work, UA, 2-day nuclear heart test, and sleep study all in my home town on orders of my PCP. I also got the psych. evaluation locally at a hospital that only does the R-n-y. When I had my first consult with my surgeon, she accepted everything except the psych. evaluation. She said it was far too brief and that I had to do it all over again with the psychologist of her choosing in Portland. So, I did it all over again and after seeing the difference between the two, I'm quite impressed. Her psychologist did a very extensive and (mostly) accurate evaluation. I'm impressed with the thoroughness of the psychologist and with the demand for excellence on the part of my surgeon. I'm leaving for Portland again this Sunday to have some weird test that is not standard for having surgery. It's part of a study that about 8 surgeons are doing across the country. It involves having an NG tube inserted through my nose, down my throat. It will be left in for 24 hours. The test will be repeated at some point post-surgery. It has something to do with determining how the BPD/DS effects acid-reflux. So, by the time I have surgery on July 9th, I will have made four pre-surgical trips; three to see my surgeon and one to have a psych evaluation. Here in Seattle, I've made about four or five trips to my own PCP or other specialists specifically for pre-surgical tests, etc. While my experiences may not be exactly like everyone else's, I think they are probably typical. Good luck in making your decision. gobo DS Sched. 7/9/01 Dr. BMI 55 > For my pre op test > > Hi Kim- Thank you for the information.
