Guest guest
, What you are experiencing is normal. I had trouble eating in the beginning also. Have you tried soup? The main thing right now is not to let yourself get dehydrated. Try popsicles or icees, anything you can to make sure you get in enough liquids. Don't worry about the sugar right now. As far as eating, a few things that went down well for me were: mashed potatoes, tuna, chicken (very small bites). I found that anything I ate went down better if it was moist. Try dipping what you're eating into some barbeque sauce or something, it might help. Good luck, let me know how it goes. Kim Dr. Anthone USC 4/18/01 -64lbs. Guest guest
, You may want to try some chicken broth added to chicken soup. If you can't eat the chicken or noodles at least you will have the extra broth. Have you tried baked fish? I cooked it on 300 for 20-25 minutes; I ate with alittle instant mashed potatoes. I can't remember how far out you are, however, on the 16th day, I had reduced fat Ritz crackers and deli turkey. Also, I eat potatoe soup during the first 2 weeks as well. I was told by my surgeon that Gatorade helps your electrolytes when your body is out of wacked. Last Saturday I did not feel all the best and I drunk the Fruit Punch Gatorade. I started feeling better that day. J. Hi : First off, be SURE you are staying well hydrated. Besides being dangerous in and of itself, dehydration can make it much harder to eat because it tends to make one dizzy and/or nauseous. Second, when you are having trouble eating the things we are supposed to eat, then just eat anything you can get down -- and I mean ANYTHING. Fruit, veggies, carbos, junk food -- whatever. Don't worry about protein or nutrition for the moment, just find some calories to put into your body. The sooner you do this, the sooner you will feel better, and thus able to eat your protein, etc. Tom

It did help me tremendously in the first three weeks post-op. I still drink it in this hot weather to prevent hydration, etc. (I drink lots of water, too). It can be difficult to find a flavor that you like, though. I loved the white 'Alpine Frost'... It seemed to have one of the least strongest flavors. So, for all recent post-ops: Try different flavors and you should be able to find one that suits you -- there are so many nowadays! all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 five months post-op and still feelin' fab! pre-oP: 307 lbs/bmi 45 now: 241 lbs/b

Everything tasted pretty bad to me after surgery also, especially eggs and cottage cheese (which taste just fine to me now, btw). Here are a few things that went down well for me in the initial period after surgery: poached salmon with lemon juice Nutrigrain frozen waffle with a little syrup and some sugar free jam baked potato with butter, cheese, and a little sour cream pot roast sliced into tiny pieces and covered with gravy oatmeal made with soy milk soy milk just to drink fried chicken breast pieces from Jack in the Box (very moist) cream of wheat There were other things but that's all I can remember off the top of my head. And I should point out that I could only eat a few bites of any of these foods at one time. I seemed to get hungry about every 2-3 hours and even when nothing tasted good I'd have something anyway. One thing that really did help me was giving up on the idea of eggs and cottage cheese and instead just trying things that I thought would go down without hurting. I wasn't always successful, couldn't eat tuna for a long time after surgery and crackers always just seemed too dry. Good luck on your journey. It does get better, LOTS better! You may have to force yourself to eat for a few days in order to get back to eating. My friend was having this problems and I made her a list of foods and told her she HAD to eat at least 5 servings of food from the list each day. This may mean that she would have to pick at it or take a bite every 10 to 15 minutes until it was gone and then begin the process all over again. You know what. She did it and now she is doing great eating. She force fed herself at least 5 of these items a day for about 4 days and has been doing great eating ever since. I am no nutritionist, but this is what worked for her. This list of foods is as follows: Remember begin by forcing yourself to eat 5 of these a day (slowly and just picking at till gone is you need to)
