Dehydrators? What do you use?

Hi!

I've noticed that several of you mention dehydrating your food. What do you use, the oven, a dehydrator, and what brand? Does anyone leave their oven on for long periods of time like overnight? I'm sort of afraid to do that. Is that an issue for you?

Thanks!

I use an Excalibur 9 tray dehydrator.

It's the best I've found of the numerous ones I've looked at. The fan and

heating element is in the back. It's easy to clean. And it can be used to

make yogurt, as well as dry food.

I got both of mine (I used the first one so much I bought a second one in

order to have enough room) from Lucy's Kitchen Shoppe, a small shop by an

SCDer.

Hi!I am new to the group and am experimenting with recipes.I just bought this dehydrator and tried making yogurt. It came out ok, though nowhere near as good as in my yogurt maker. The texture wasn't smooth. I never put any extras in my yogurt, just milk (non-homogenized) and starter. I put the mason jars on one of the trays. Should I have put them directly on the bottom of the dehydrator? Do I need to mix the milk more thoroughly to mix in the cream?TIA for your help.Regards .... Patcurrently going through test to determine the problem .... I decided to be proactive :)Subject: Re: Dehydrators? What do you use?To: BTVC-SCD Date: Sunday, January 17, 2010, 6:01 PM
