I am now over 5 months into SCD. I have certainly felt better since starting SCD

last August but am having a really bad flare up every 4 or 5 weeks that puts me

back to " Square One " and on Prednisone 30mg to be tapered off over a few weeks.

My Dr has only really given me Prednisone (that does control symptoms) and

Asacol and Apriso that I can't say really do much. I want to find a Dr with more

Crohns experience, even if they are not familiar with SCD, maybe LDN or

something else could be tried alongside SCD. My Dr had suggested Remicade as a

next treatment but I am not sure I want to try that. Maybe Remicade would work

well with SCD. I do not think SCD can be bad with any treatment. I am not

currently eating yogurt. I am very underweight(20lbs) and gain weight back very

slowly on SCD, about 4 lbs a month and then with the flare, it is lost again in

a few days. I do not eat anything past the low level foods. I am planning to try

the yogurt (goat and dripped) again slowly. Starting with a spoon a day. When I

first started SCD I did not take yogurt and thought the yogurt was a factor in

the flares. I also Take GI Prohealth SCD Probiotic, Multivitamin and S Boulardi.

I am hoping as time goes on the flares will happen less frequently and I will be

able to eat more SCD foods. I know from experience that my CD can go into

remission. It is just really hard this time getting to that point.

I do read some encouraging stories here that keep me going! Thanks for posting.

Thanks for any Advice.

Sorry to hear about your flare. It's possible that your prednisone dose is too

small and tapered off too quickly to allow your body to heal. The two times

I've had to take prednisone, I started out with 40 or 50 mg and tapered off by 5

mg each week.

Like you, I would shy away from Remicade. You may want to talk with your dr.

about Imuran. I've never tried it (and don't plan to), but it's a step down

from Remicade, from what I understand, and effectively lowers your white blood

cell count. Then there's LDN.

Good luck!

Regards,

Jill
