Hello everyone. My son who is diagnosed with mitochondrial encephelomyopathy is 8 years old. I am needing some help/advice. My son is having some drolling problems. He is "pooling" in the back of his throat and his drooling is excessive. Since he is in 3rd grade now it is also becoming not very pleasant for his classmates who he loves to be around. His hands are always wet as well as his shirt and chin. We are considering the use of Robinol to dry up his secretions. He has a G-Tube so we can give extra fluid through it, but I heard the side effects are not good. I am wondering what others experience with it is. Trying to decide what to do and it always seems that I can make that decision from what other parents tell me. Thanks in advance for any help/advice you might give!

Heidi,

We have used both Robinol and the Scopolamine

patch. I found both to work equally well – the patch dries out ’s

skin but works for 3 days. We have not had any side effects from either medicine.

Emilie has had no side effects. She's been taking it for about 10 years.

Thanks for sharing this! Emilie's doctor has told us we could try doing

that, but we had doubts about whether it would really work and haven't

tried it. Good to hear it does!
