Guest guest
Hello everyone. My son who is diagnosed with mitochondrial encephelomyopathy is 8 years old. I am needing some help/advice. My son is having some drolling problems. He is "pooling" in the back of his throat and his drooling is excessive. Since he is in 3rd grade now it is also becoming not very pleasant for his classmates who he loves to be around. His hands are always wet as well as his shirt and chin. We are considering the use of Robinol to dry up his secretions. He has a G-Tube so we can give extra fluid through it, but I heard the side effects are not good. I am wondering what others experience with it is. Trying to decide what to do and it always seems that I can make that decision from what other parents tell me. Thanks in advance for any help/advice you might give! Heidi Harmon
Guest guest
Heidi, We have used both Robinol and the Scopolamine patch. I found both to work equally well – the patch dries out ’s skin but works for 3 days. We have not had any side effects from either medicine. Sue Ann Bube Drooling Problems/Robinol Hello everyone. We ve never had to increase >his dosage by doing this and it works again >wonderfully when we start it back up. Good luck and >its like turning off a faucet! > Thanks for sharing this! Emilie's doctor has told us we could try doing that, but we had doubts about whether it would really work and haven't tried it. Good to hear it does! -- Mom to: Emilie (18), mito--complex IV, cp, ld Kaitlin (18), cp, asthma, a few autonomic symptoms Ian (22) migraines ....and wife to Tim, who has a heart of gold
