Guest guest
Hi All- I am new to the SCD diet and have made my fair amount of mistakes already in the first two weeks. I have been quickly learning to be very " fanatical " about the diet. I'm also learning to go slowly as I made my first batch of goat yogurt last week and ate a full cup the next morning. I'm not sure if it was the probiotics or the fact that I hadn't eaten dairy in 4 years, but all I know is that was a very bad day! I tried the yogurt again the next day and felt worse so for now I stopped having yogurt until my dairy free starter arrives (used dannon) and I am going to start with almond milk yogurt and if that goes well try the goat yogurt again (only 1 teaspoon at a time). Anyway, I'm trying to figure out where I can buy prune juice for the C protocol. I went to Whole Foods and could only find one bottle of their 365 organic prune juice. It says " from concentrate " on it, but of course only has water and prune juice on the label. Why can we drink the Welch's grape juice that says from concentrate, but we can't drink other juices from concentrate? If this prune juice says " from concentrate " does that mean I shouldn't use it? Without thinking I stewed up my prunes in the juice and had a couple. Then I started thinking the juice may not be okay after all. Does anyone know or know of any other prune juices that are legal? Does anyone have any experience weaning off of Senna Tea? Unfortunately due to the terrible C problem that this yeast overgrowth gave me, I used senna tea for many years. Thanks for the advice. Guest guest
Make your own prune juice. It's so simple. Add about 2 cups of prunes to 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then drop to a simmer, covered for about an hour. Put it in a blender and puree. I used to buy it in the store until I realized how easy it was. You can try getting a legal magnesium if your C is super bad. Magnesium helped me at first but irritated my guts into making my C worse after a few days. Prunes are the only thing that helps. I even tried stewing the prunes in OJ until the OJ was almost evaporated and it didn't help. I usually eat 5 prunes at night and that keeps me pretty regular. When I have serious bouts of C or if my symptoms are flaring too much, I'll make prune juice. Sorry, can't help you with the Senna, but I think that would be bad for IBD/IBCers anyway. I used to take it before my onset of Crohns. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 2 years > Anyway, I'm trying to figure out where I can buy prune juice for the C protocol. Guest guest
Prunes or prune juice works for me as well, but be careful how many you start with at first. I cooked down 5 or 6 prunes and ate them all and that was too much for me and I was very uncomfortable for a while until everything resolved itself :>). Now, I do well with about 3 oz. of prune juice a day. So you mileage may vary. I think my gut's more sensitive so it doesn't take much of anything to cause a reaction anymore.-- Make your own prune juice. It's so simple. Add about 2 cups of prunes to 4 cups of water.
