I have to laugh...I've been online for almost 4 years and in that time I've never gotten any virus or had any problem with my computer...I don't know if its dumb luck or because I'm careful. I do know alot has to do that I don't use outlook express, which almost ALL viruses are set up to work thru, but I do alot of downloading and somehow between being aware where I am, what I download and what email I download the attachments from, I've never had to experience the horror! I suppose I should knock on wood...and I just the other day download and signed up for Mcafee virus something...but alot of things I run I have to shut it off so its actually becoming a hassle already...LOL

If you dont use outlook express what do you use? I was under the impression we all had that....forgive my ignorance!

I am on compuserve which has its own mail system. There is also netscape, pegesus, eudora to name a few. Outlook I think is probably by far the most common after aol?

If I wanted to drop outlook express can I just uninstall or something and go with netscape? or am I stuck with it?

Why uninstall it? It is bound up in many of the Windows programs and you can really mess up your system. If you don't want to use it, don't.

As a user of about every mail program that has been made, I love Eudora the best. It is, unfortunately, a resource hog, as is Netscape. Netscape is, IMHO an inferior mail program---- but an outstanding browser. I'd personally recommend sticking with a mail program such as Outlook Express. I have never gotten a virus using it. I have and update my virus program regularly. I also remove the option of sending messages with attachment on every list I am moderator of. I open no attachments I am not expecting from a good source. And I virus check them in advance.
