Nick in Sage:

You do not seem to be a happy camper. Did you know that you too can go to Yahoo and start your own list? On that list you can say anything you want. You sound like someone who is not looking for support but someone who wants to pick a fight. No one here needs that. has been a wonderful moderator. There are hundreds of members to this group and she has been a leader and inspiration to all of us. The only thing that you have inspired me to do is to hit the delete button when I see your name.

I don't know the Deb story in its entirety because I was on no mail for a period of time due to my own recovery. However, we have had other members go through bad times and even pass away. I met a wonderful girl in the waiting room of my doctor's office. She was 3 months post-op and although she was doing fine with her DS surgery, she still was challenged by her pre-operative co-morbidities. Three months later she was dead. She was a lot younger than me and had her surgery just a few months before me. Most of us are not in good health when we begin this journey and that complicates our whole process. That is the reason that most doctors won't touch us for any kind of surgery and our insurance companies abandon us . If you have been a member of this group for as long as I have, you would know that we are not strangers to untimely death and serious medical complications.. These are usually sudden unexpected, heartbreaking and frightening whether you are pre-op or post-op. I feel for the fact that Deb went through a horrific experience but there is no need to blame the group for moving on. It is the purpose of this group to give support and be an informational vehicle. We cannot be like crabs in a barrel, when one tries to get out, the others pull him back in.

If you are not happy here, leave. Re-read your posts, you haven't said anything positive. It is for sure and her supporters aren't going anywhere. So I repeat, if you're not happy, go to Yahoo and make the "I'm Nick from Sage and I'm not happy" group and watch the members join you. I notice that there was a support group list for Deb's plight but it only had three or four posts. Maybe you should activate that group.

Kathie -

If you think my posts are all negative, probably you aren't being fully forthcoming about having read "all" my posts.

My "happy camper" quotient is just fine. I have been negative in my reaction on two occasions. First I posted concern over the Deb/Dr. Ren issue (about which you have admitted to having incomplete knowledge but then go on to talk about all the people who have died from comorbidities which doesn't have any bearing on the Deb issue).

Now I am concerned about the head-in-the-sand approach to the politics of health insurance and the denial of approval of WLS surgery. How do you see that as being unrelated to this list?

Both are issues very much related to what are regularly discussed on this list. Why should we now cease discussing them because the political system is now involved in determining just what rights an HMO patient has? I sincerly hope that people will recognize that just because their own ox remains ungored, others on the list both now and in the future will depend upon a level playing field when it comes to seeking approval of WLS.

I am unimpressed with the "if you don't like it, leave" mentality. I think, though, that I shall join Tom and try to exceed his hue of purple in my visage.

Best--
