Guest guest
Sue, I was reading your experience with hip problems in your mito kiddos. We had Grace to an orthopedic doctor a few months back, for her feet and ankle problems. Anyways on the x rays the doctor mentioned that Grace had "high" hipbones. Does this sound like what your kids had? Her doctor did not discuss treatment at this time, but did suggest that if it does not fix itself in a year then treatment will be necessary. I did not ask the doctor any questions regarding this, as I was more interested in her ankle problems at the time. Her pediatrician has never heard of this before, so did not have any info for me. I am now just trying to understand what he was talking about. Any info is helpful. Thanks
Guest guest
Hi , Sorry this is so late getting to you. Our doc never mentioned high hip bones, but the way the boys' hips look on x-ray I guess you could say they are high. The boys have shallow hip sockets so the head of the femur doesn't sit in all the way. The doc said they didn't form correctly. Actually, it's just the left one. After several years, the hips finally just popped out of the socket. Chris' was causing so much pain that we did the surgery. He had no cartilidge (sp?) left for a cusion so that's why his was hurting. After the mess we went through with him, I said no to Billy's surgery! His spinal fusion eased up on the pulling of the hip so it doesn't hurt too bad. It does if you pull his hip to the side. We're just careful with the boys. We also are getting tilt in space/reclining wheelchairs to (hopefully!) ease the pain by allowing the boys to open up past 90 degrees. I swear I get so tired of fixing one thing just to bring on a new problem!!! I hope that helped you somewhat. Sue & Jack, worn out parents to the greatests kids on earth, Las Vegas, NV-- (14) & Billy (13)--both with Leigh's Disease (?), MR (mild), g-tube. Billy--fundo, trach (larynotracheomalacia), vent 24/7, spinal fusion, baclofen pump. Chris-no left hip socket!
