Guest guest
YEAH!!!!! : ) I really hope that is the case!!Amelia ----- Forwarded Message ----To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, January 21, 2010 3:42:06 AMSubject: I MIGHT not have osteoporosis! Guess what?? I might not actually have osteoporosis! ! I went to a new endocrinologist today, and she said that sometimes when bone density scans are done on young people, they don't take into account that our bones might just be SMALLER than the average bone, since we're not full grown yet. The scan sends x-ray beams through your bones and measures how much comes out the other side to determine bone density, but a small bone would let more past than a large bone no matter HOW dense it was. So she has to double check everything, and I may have to get a new bone scan done. So I'm hopeful, but trying not to get too excited because I may still very well have osteoporosis. Anyways. I'll let you guys know what I find out! Peace =) Alyssa 15 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008 SCD June 2009 (restarted) Chinese Herbs (not legal but helping!) Guest guest
Guess what?? I might not actually have osteoporosis! ! Alyssa, that's great! I can see how small bones might confuse things. Sounds like at the very least, you probably have a lot less than they thought! These tests can be totally off if you don't fit the normal parameters. I had that when my IBS started. They did a transit time test and said I was normal, when I was always racing off to the bathroom. Found out later in a colonoscopy that my lower bowel is three feet longer than normal, so a supposed normal transit time wasn't at all. Things were really racing through (as I knew). I was dramatically C until the violent onset of the IBS after a flu in 1982. I can tell you, the new problem came as a real surprise! I just thought -- maybe this is the reason I tolerate salads and raw fruits so well, maybe I need them for my longer transit time!
