Hello all...I have only posted a few times, but try to read the list

every day. I am a 35 yo mothers of three and married for 16 years

and I live with chronic illness. I am a nurse (have been for 16

years also) and have been off work for a month now, but if you add

up all the time I have missed r/t illness, appointments, and surgery

I have missed 2/3 of my shifts since the beginning of the year.

My question to you all is about SSDI and how long the approval

process took for you? Has anyone here been denied completely (I

mean even after an appeal?)? I hired ALLSUP INC social security

innovations to handle everything for me. Has anyone here used

them? Did everything work out ok? Did anyone here get approval

right away?

I have multiple medical Dx (I am sure we all have) and do not feel I

can work at this time, for my own health as well as the patients I

care for (I am a nurse). I have sarcodosis probably neurosarc,

Fibromyalgia, HNPP (a genetic neurological disorder), Tortacollis, 2

cervical disk herniations, depression and anxiety (possible bipolar-

I have a family Hx of it). I live in constant pain. Currently I am

off the pain medications, I was on methadone for 9 months and coming

off was H**! I am trying to live with out the pain medications

(will this be a problem with SSDI?). I am doing everything I can to

stay off them…massage, heat, PT-at home-my insurance company bought

me a home traction machine, OTC medication, and my neuro-medication-

gabapention. I even bought a very expensive temprapedic mattress to

see if it will help!

I would love to hear your stories about trying to get SSDI!

PS sorry for the spelling…I am the worst!

Thank you! Pam

Hi Pam, I think most of us have been denied out social security at least once or twice and yes even after the appeal.. you just reappeal.. I myself like you was a nurse and I had worked 25 years.. I got sent home from work the 27th day of November 2001 due to tremors and just not being able to function..I was having horrid muscle cramps, room spins, total body tremors and the worst pain I'd ever experienced in my life in my back.. I then went on leave of absence for a month and things just kept progressing in the wrong way.. instead of getting better I was getting sicker everyday... My doctor suggested SSDI, and I was horrified, I had planned to work till I was at least in my 70's and I was in my mid 40's I was devasted.. but as time went on, it was apparant to everyone inclucding myself that I had not option.

I applied for SSDI, and was denied the first go around. I appealed they sent me to a orthopedic doctor due to the pain in my back.. he told me to appeal, appeal, and appeal.. and that he would write the most favorable letter to help me that he could. Didn't work.. I was denied.. They then sent me to a pulmonolgist for a PFT since I have sarc in my lungs as well, never saw the doctor they just did the test, and sent me on my merry way... I was denied once again.. This process went on for 2 years.. I was a single mom of 1 and we had "NO" income what so ever.. My parents had to pay every bill I had for those two years, and they are not wealthy by any means.. I then hired a lawyer.. where she told me that after the second appeal that's when you are beginning to be taken seriously... She said that they deny you, hoping you will get discouraged and quit trying. And actually at this point they had a form, that I had to take to my PCP that asked him what I could and couldn't do. That was sent to the judge, and a letter sent from my lawyer saying I was too sick to even come to court. I received a letter then within 2 weeks I got the letter in favor of disability benifits. ..

I don't know of anyone that has used a specialty company to obtain SSDI, but hey they should know what they are doing and they should know all the loop holes that you have to jump through.

There are a few on the list that did receive SSDI the first time. Can't think right of the bat who they are though..

Wishing you lots of luck!!

Hi Pam, It took me about a year and a half to get approved for SSDI. The first application was denied which most are. I got a lawyer and appealed and I am very glad I did. The lawyer helped out a lot. He was specialized in that field and I only had to meet with him twice. The rest was over the phone. I kept all of my med records and test results in a folder and gave him copies of the whole thing with lists of the drs I had seen and my meds and all. He did all of the paperwork and scheduled a very quick date for a hearing. He told me he might even be able to get my case approved without me even having to go to the hearing which was good , because I was so nervous. It ended up that he was right, I got approved with his help before the actual hearing date. I recommend that having a lawyer is the best way to go. They know the ins and outs even if they take part

of the settlement. It sounds like you have enough proof that you deserve it, I hope everything works out for you. Just make sure you have everything recorded, dates and even recommendations from other people that are close to you and have seen what you have been through. Good luck, Debbie T. Pam & , actually I used a specialty company because my long-term disability company through my employer provided the service. For me it was a good thing, because the representative kept after me about the appeals process. Otherwise I would have missed the deadline for appeal & had to start over, which would have cost me several months back pay when it was finally approved. So Pam, if you don't use a lawyer or other professional, make sure that you get your paperwork in on time. I was denied once, appealed (at the last minute!) & was denied again, then got a letter that I would be contacted later for a court date. But just a few weeks after that I got a letter that I was approved. The judge who signed it stated that a hearing was unnecessary & referred to Dr. Baughman's letter. He is a sarc specialist in Cincinnati & I had attached his letter to my appeal, so that did the trick.
