Guest guest
had his muscle biopsy yesterday, and today he is running a low fever (100-101). I talked to the surgical nurse, and she said so long as his urine looks fine, and the fever stays under 102 I dont have to worry... Obviously my concern is infection, but the doc said it would likely take 2-3 days for an infection to make itself known... is it common to get a low fever after surgery? has a tendancy to run hot, so im not sure if this is related to the biopsy, or just him being him... hes quite sore today, and wont walk on his own, but i imagine thats pretty normal after something like this... any thoughts? Guest guest
My daughter, 2.5 years, had a muscle biopsy a month ago at CCF. She had a follow up pain relief med. Oxocy…?? A deep muscle pain reliever , a step up from motrin , for the first 48 hours after, and she would not walk until late the second , early the third day. She is also developed congestion, and a slight fever. About a week after, she continued to be lethargic, and stayed that way for about 3 weeks. We had to travel back across the country, so who knows if it was the lack of rest, not wanting to eat, the pain or the stress of the procedure, but I was told this is common. It took her a full month to rebound and all of her skills /energy level resolved completely, but it took a while. I have been reading your posts about the procedure, and I am not surprised he had a little setback. I would just push fluids, rest, provide pain relief, ( if you don’t have a prescription , ask, because even Cohen was fine with the prescription she had and it had no cognitive effects and made all the difference in the world, until then, use motrin) also cool packs on the leg helped Zoe for muscle pain, but overall don’t be too panicked. These days they close and pack the incision site so carefully the risk of infection is very low at the site of the procedure. Also, for extra info read Cohens paper on anesthesia on the www.umdf.org page , the page with previous newsletters, it is posted to the right. ( library,resources.. cant remember) toward the end of the paper it talks about the stress to the body and things to watch out for after the procedure, that may be helpful to you. I re-read it several times. Finally , know that it took my daughter a while, but she recovered 100 percent from the stress. Hope that helps.
