Guest guest
Could someone please explain to me why there is such a high incidence of post op hernias? Is there a correlation between BMI and hernias? Help...this one scares me for some reason! Thanks, Ti P.S. Really appreciative of all the posts. The good, the bad, and the ugly. P.S.S. Ok, I have to amend that, the posts that make me crazy are those who tell everyone else how to behave. If the " correctors " would just get on with their lives, I have a feeling, the board would get on with its mission, and the folks who disagree with each other, would drop the issue! Guest guest
Hi! I have a post-op hernia. Well, actually, I have 6 post-op hernias, little and not so little gaps in the muscle wall along my incicion line. They ache a bit occassionally. They are not obvious, even under a slinky spandex tee. They are a little annoying when it comes to working out and trying to get my tummy muscles in better shape, because they do hurt after a workout. Other than that, I seldom give them another thought. Not all hernias result in life threatening bowel occlussions. My surgeon warned me that it was a 50/50 chance of developing them. He doesn't know why he has such a high incidence in BPD patients, as the problem does not occur in the rest of his practice, even in obese patients having other surgeries. Perhaps it has something to do with malnutrion after surgery, answers are just not in yet. Having them repaired is a simple proceedure, frequently done in connection with a tummy tuck. Neither of my insurance companies will pay for the Hernia repair AND tuck. I have been trying to save up the dough for the tuck and have them done at the same time, since I really dislike the idea of 2 surgeries when 1 could do the trick. Due to several reverses in family fortunes, it will be a while yet. Deborah BPD/DS 09/24/97 307 lbs BMI 54 Current 154lbs BMI
