Guest guest
Is pneumonia common w/ these kids? i am tempted to take zach in today cause i'm 80 % sure he has pneumonia again. So, i am going to bring him in to the dr.s today on this holiday of ours. I just hope they're open. I think they are though. He is getting a higher fever so may have an ear infection too hes been pulling at his ear. I noticed too , when he was having coughing fits sat night, His heart rate was super super fast is that something to mention to the cardio? we go see them on wed. Hes had pneumonia like 5 times already . They're thinking of getting him the pneumonia shot. Has anyone had a good experience w/ that? Guest guest
Hi , Yes, pneumonia is very common with a lot of our kids. Kirkland's had the pneumonia shot with no negative reaction but as with all vaccines, there's a lot of debate surrounding it. He has had a lot of pneumonias since then but I think you need to question what the cause is. In Kirk's case, his are from silent aspiration and excessive secretions. The shot likely protects people from catching the virus (or bacterial infection? -not sure which one it is). We always narrow Kirk's down to aspiration. I'd definitely mention Zach's heart rate changes during coughing spells if you're going to see the cardio anyway. Can't hurt. Guest guest
, Does Zach have dysphagia/aspiration issues? Or reflux? Both of these are common causes of pneumonia in any person. Chelsea has severe aspiration, and has had pneumonia numerous times and is 100% gtube fed because of it. In the past year or so, I have noticed a pattern when she gets ill. She will start coughing after going to bed and cough all nite, which keeps her awake. She is then exhausted by morning, and this increases her aspiration risk. She had pneumonia 3 or 4 times last winter, and it happened like thisa every time. She also has asthma, so I think she also tends to develop bronchitis (my sis had chronic brinchitis growing up, and I often have deja vu when Chelsea is getting sick). Guest guest
My son had the pneumonia vaccine several times. Due to his immune system he did not build up a titer to it. After you get the shot you should have the Dr. see whether the child is protected. He had no problems from the shot, just no protection.
