Guest guest
Hi Susiecue, Lucy here, I have been bothered with the sweating problem for a long time. It is so embarrassing and makes you feel so yucky! I once thought that it was because of antihistamines that I take all of the time. Now, I kinda wonder if the RP might have something to do with it. Most of my sweating is on my face and head. My hair stays short for that very reason, because my hair is going to be wet just like I just washed it. The least little exertion would bring on the " water " . Hope this helps some. I know what you are going through. Guest guest
Dear Glenda, before I was diagnosed in 98, I got sinus infections, bronchitius and all sorts of infections. So I did take echeniacia, flared like crazy. That in fact was probably in 97. It does boost the immune system so you are one smart person not to take it. Geeze why do we need a doctor if he gives us wrong infromation. Heck, he may need a vacation and wants you to pay for it. We need to be aware and somewhat treat ourselves. Guest guest
Susiecue.. I have been bothered with sweating for a long time. I always mention it to the drs and never get a response. LOL I have most of mine at night, and only a few during the day... It is a horrible feeling. Have you had your hormones checked recently? I've got no estorgen in my body even though I'm on estrogen pills. LOL go figure... When someone figures it out let me know. Liz, I think you are right about the sweating... I haven't really been sick with a cold or anything else since I've been sweating... Maybe I don't want to stop. LOL hugs

Guest guest
Susiecue, Yes this has come up before but I think you are new so glad you asked. I think it is the side effects of the pred. I sweat worse when I was on it. I don't have to take it all the time only when I have flares. This is the weird part for me. I was the type of person who never sweat much. I mean I didn't have to wear deodorant. I hardly sweat. Now I have to wear deodorant and I sweat everywhere.LOL Oh well if that is the least of the side effects there are worse things. Don't feel bad because you aren't able to do as much as you use to. It will take time to get used to it but it will come. I still hate not being able to do what I used to do but I would rather be safe than sorry. For instance.... My PCP has tried twice now to get me to take echanasia(sp) I told him I couldn't this time because it builds up the immune system and it says right on the bottle not to take it if you have a suppressed immune system. He said it doesn't build it up that much and it shouldn't hurt me. I told him that the RP is being quiet and that I didn't care to play games with it. I told him I would rather live with a cold/infection instead of the RP. I think the hardest part for us RP's is learning to take things easier and taking care of ourselves. Once you do I think you will find that you RP will slow down. I know stress is my biggest problem! I am doing better on handling that but it still gets the better of me at times. Take care and I will be sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Never feel bad about posting your problems here! That is what this group is for helping each other. This time it is just your turn! Guest guest
How old are you??? And regardless of your age, have you had your hormone levels checked? Ya know, as our bodies change and age so does our ability to regulate our temperature. My normal temperature has always been about 97.2 . . . when I am over 98 I feel like I have a fever. I am 46 now and I find I am having more night sweats and random sweats and when I take my temp it is above 98. I miss my flannel night gowns that I only used to put away June July and August (my husband doesn't)! Anyhow, have your hormone levels checked and see what comes up or down as the case might be . . . also have them check your thyroid as that change can cause sweats as well. Usually sweats are a good thing as that means an efficient metabolism?! ) Vicki In CA (RNY 12/98) Still here, but more of a lurker these days . . . Lost 100% of excess weight and am maintaining easily. > Hi - I haven't posted in a long time but lately I have been having a > terrible time with sweating. I am always warm now as opposed to always being cold when I was losing weight and my metabolism was slower from the low caloric intake. In maintenance it takes a lot more calories to maintain if there was no dieting involved, because there is no more excess body fat to use up to meet the body's energy needs. We should get " hotter " eventually or our metabolisms are not working right or we are in starvation mode metabolically speaking. ) Vicki

Guest guest
Hi all. I am having a lot of problems with the "sweats". (I know Rosie you recommend your "special ice packs") But I have them in public a lot, too. It is embarrasing. I don't know if its from premenopause either. But I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I could do for this, I would appreciate it. Its awful. Its not like hot flashes because it lasts longer. Thanks. Guest guest
I relate Debbie. According to my doctors, excessive sweats are an indication of increased sarcoidosis activity. I have a small fan I keep by me at home so when I start sweating, I am able to cool down at least to make me more comfortable. Ice packs on the wrists help too (something they do with runners to cool them down). It is embarrassing to be sweating bullets in public. I do this sometimes when I go to my appts. I had a total hyst in 1999 and never had a hot flash. Sometimes too I will go opposite with chills but at least people can't see that!Blessings,BeckyDebbie wrote: Hi all. Guest guest
Debbie, you will be glad to know that it has an official name: hyperhidrosis! Now, don't you feel better? 3 years ago, when I had my son's & daughter's weddings coming up in the summer and didn't want to have my hair & makeup dripping, I saw my dermatologist. He gave me a prescription for Robinul & I also decided to have Botox injections along the hairline of my forehead. It cost $500 & I likely won't ever do it again, but I was glad I did. The back of my head got wet, but everything that showed in photos looked fine. I did try the Robinul when I was in San for Ginny's wedding, because it was outside, at 6pm, late July. It did help, but I think I took too much because for a few hours I didn't perspire AT ALL, and actually got overheated. I think he had said to take 1-2 pills, and me being a big girl I figured I would need 2. Not! Hope this helps. Guest guest
Don't forget the little battery-operated fans at Walmart! Up here they sell them for $1.00, including batteries. They use 2 AA batteries & last quite awhile. I don't leave home without it, plus extra batteries. Also, in late summer they usually put them on sale for $.50, sometimes even $.25. I buy a bunch & give them as stocking stuffers! The other thing that is really helpful is the cool bands, I think they are called Aqua Bands at Walmart. They come in different colors & designs & you can wear it like a scarf on your neck, only it's cool. Guest guest
You couldn't do it in public but I squirt myself down with a bottle of water, including my head. After a bit it's like that cool you feel when you first get out of a pool. I leave the bra on damp too when I go to bed. Air conditioning doesn't do it and it makes my knees ache.grannylunatic@... Guest guest
Debbie, I was able to get several of the neckerchiefs from Walmart that you put in cold water, they puff up, and then wring the water from them, and they stay cool for hours! I found them in the Sporting Goods Dept, around the football equipment. I love em, the make it possible for me to be out in the heat at least for a short time. However, I still can't handle the heat. 's on high dose Warfarin, (Coumadin) and he's not comfortable unless it's 85+ degrees, he loves it when it hits 100.
