Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My daughter (9) Mito/Cvs/Gerd recently started taking Neurontin 200mgX3daily. She was on it for 2 weeks when she entire personality started to change. She was explosive-out of control-fresh...even said she hated me... The only thing we could think of was this new medication. Has anyone else experienced this? This was prescribed for her hand on toe twitching. Her fingers and toes rarely stop moving so her Neurologist put her on the Neurontin to help ease the 'twitching'. I didn't see a huge change. said she did at first but then it felt like it made it worse. If anyone out there has a child with this type of finger movements-what do you do or use to help control it? Our Doctor assured me that this would not lead to neuropathy. Is this true? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, , Mom to Nikki & Chelsey (13) unaffected
Guest guest
No experience with neurontin with my mito child. But, the psychiatrist wanted to put my older child on it for his behavior problems last year, i.e. talking back to adults, aggressive behavior with peers, and hyperactivity. She thinks he has cyclothymia or bipolar II disorder (not manic depression which is more extreme). Anyway, we tried zoloft first and luckily this has greatly helped him and going on neurontin was not necessary. Guest guest
I have no experience with this drug, but I do remember the manufacturer got into trouble for pushing off-label uses such as what your daughter is on it for (though I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing - off-label uses). It's a seizure drug. You can do searches for it on google or yahoo. I believe there is an increased risk of suicide for children taking this drug. I have essential tremor, and on a list for that, many adult patients complained of adverse effects (it's also off-label use for ET). Go with your gut feeling - if it's not helping and you think it's making her personality change for the worse - get her off it (probably have to do it gradually, I'd suspect). good luck, Mama to Seamas, 9 and Liam, 3 - myoclonic seizures, global dev. delay, undescended testes, possible failure to thrive, possible mito - no dx. > > Hi Everyone, > My daughter (9) Mito/Cvs/Gerd recently started taking Neurontin > 200mgX3daily. Guest guest
, I wish I could say that I had a pleasant ecperience with neurontin, but it wasn't good for me. Some people handle it well but most that I have heard was negative things. It is very famous for mood swings and depression. If you don't think that is helping her tell your doctor that it isn't working and get it away from her. Guest guest
Our experience with neurontin was not a pleasant one. Even on the low dose our daughter became very mean and vilently agressive. I know several who have been using it with no problems but many who have. If you don't think that is helping her tell your doctor that it isn't working and get it away from her. Neurontin is actually handled well by most people. It can help reduce neuropathic pain. The biggest side effect seems to be fatigue. I have heard of people who use higher doses than my son, who takes 1200 mg 3X/day.
