Guest guest
Start the antibiotics!!!!!! I always believe that it is important to err on the side of caution. you can never go back and change things but being on antibiotics for a couple of days if they are not needed won't hurt. Good luck and I hope he feels better. Dawn
Guest guest
We are always more cautious about infections with Grace than are other " healthy " kids. If it was me, I would definatly start the antibiotics. Once a fever starts, sometimes its too late and dehydration kicks in right after. Also about the strep throat. You can actually have no sypmtoms at all and have strep. This actually happened to my kids once. I had one child with sypmtoms of strep, but had to take them all with me to the others doctors appointment. My doc swabbed the first one (she has an instant test in her office), she was positive. Then another child said there throat was a little scratchy, but no pain. Had her swabbed, positive. We figured with two positve, better do them all. We then had my son and Grace swabbed, neither with any sypmtoms. They were both positive. We were so glad we had Grace swabbed because her protocal calls for her to be admitted with any fever. If we were to wait a few days to start antibiotics, she would have ended up with a hospital stay. Best wishes. _________________________________________________________________ Get ready for school! Guest guest
I know my kids don't always have a fever with strep throat; especially as they got older. But their stomachs would really hurt. did they do the fast swab result and then if that shows negative they will usually culture the swab longer and keep checking it. our lab would even call us on a weekend after checking it. There have been many times that when the boys would have strep Leah's ped would give her a script for an antibotic so she wouldn't get the strep. Some times I've filled it and other times I waited to see what would happen because when the boys get sick we quarantine them in the upstairs away from Leah. Now some viruses cause blisters in the throat. Can your child suck on popsicles or such? I know when I thought it was strep because of a really red throat, it turned out to be just a virus. You never know. Guest guest
they dont have the fast swab unfortunately, and because im in canada, we cannot get lab results on a weekend, so we will have to wait till Monday if the early results are inconclusive (docs calling me any time with those). The doc initially thought a virus, but he has NO other symptoms of a virus (runny nose, etc) and no fever... with viruses he usually runs rediculously high fevers, He has been going nuts on the popsicles.. lol! poor guy, all i can get him to eat are mushy crackers and popsicles today. We should be hearing from teh doc in the next hour, so hopefully well have some answers. > > >Our doc thinks has strep throat... but were not sure yet as > >he has no fever. > >he has several blisters in his throat, and is clearly in alot of > >pain.
