Guest guest
Hi! I live in Kentucky and all the mediCAID systems aren't the same. I received my mediCAID card about 3 months after I applied for my disability. I was on a medical leave still from my employer and had COBRA coverage but it was extremely expensive. One word of caution from my own personal experience. I called the SSI office when I received the card. They said it was mine to keep so I cancelled the COBRA only to find out that because my disability amount was too high to collect SSI I was not eligible to keep the mediCAID. My mediCARE became effective 2 years after the date I was awarded my disability. Hope this helps a bit. grannylunatic@... Be a better Heartthrob. Guest guest
I have gotten my medicare card and it has helped a great deal. I was told that my SSI may be reduced if I was to get SSDI or vice versa. I was also told that if I was approved for SSI I would get medicaid automatically. Is this not true? I am almost to the three month period. I guess I am just a little impatient as I need medicine and dental care urgently. But I am sure it will come. My teeth and bones are very brittle these days so I am taking supplements that hopefully with help. Thanks for the info though. Shauna in Atl Need a vacation? Guest guest
Hi Shauna I was approved for both within a week or so but because my SSD was too high I had to return the SSI checks and my mediCAID was cut off. They put me on the *!! & ## ing "spend down" program & I am over $20,000 in medical bills because I had to wait 2 years AFTER I filed for SSD to be approved for mediCARE. Be sure you check whatever the agencies tell you TWICE because their employees are only human too. I may be paranoid now but it could save you headaches in the future. I'm not sure about Georgia but I do know what Kentucky did. Have a good day! grannylunatic@... Fussy? Opinionated? Impossible to please? Perfect. Join Yahoo!'s user panel and lay it on us.
