That is a very good question. I am not sure, but I would think you would need

to take of all of your jewelry. Is there something out there you could put in

that is plastic maybe? Just so it doesn't close up during surgery. I am

curious about this as well, I hope somebody has the answer! I will be first

in line to get my nipple pierced as soon as I get plastic surgery at the end

of my WLS journey!

: Woah, pretty sexy! ROFL :):) I would confirm with your surgeon but

I don't think you'll need to remove it. I mean, it will show up on an x-ray,

etc. but they will be able to identify what it is (I don't think it will

interfere with the tests, I mean).

I have a jade bracelet that's been on my wrist for over a decade. I cannot

physically pull it off. Dr Gagner said it would have to be removed or cut

but the anesthesiologist just wrapped it in tape and said it would most

likely not need to be removed. I think they were concerned that I may bloat

or swell to the point where it would cut off circulation to my hand. The

anesthesiologist said that wouldn't happen. I woke up with it intact! :):)

If it were your belly button you most likely would have to remove it but I

think it may be possible to keep it on since it really isn't in the area

where the surgery will occur?

Check if you can wear a retainer...this is a clear plastic piece of body jewelry. I am not sure if you can wear it during surgery but maybe!

I know from having an upper GI tomorrow if you need one of those, you'll have to remove anything metal......

If you're approved for surgery...take it out and go for it...you can always

get it re-pierced later!! I would almost cut off a nipple at this point to

get approved......I did say " almost " ! LOL

I don't know that you will have to remove it. They may ask you to, in

fact they may get pushy about it, but the bottom line is that

anything metal will show up on the slides and obscure a portion of

the films. Unless you have the friggin ring from hell...(are we

talking brass rings here? snicker) they can mark the slides. I have

had gall bladder surgery and have a real interseting series of metal

staples internally...i have a feeling, they aren't gonna be removed

in advance!

Laughing...so, what the hell....ask your doc in advance. I don't

think the feel of removing it right now will feel too great, or

reinserting it for that matter!

Yes, .. it will need to be removed..

The metal will show up in x-rays. What you might do to prevent

closure of the piercing is find someone who carries the 14-gauge

surgical tubing & created a " temporary " piece of jewelry with the

tubing. Then if it is secured with tape, you should be allowed to

keep it in. However, you should discuss this with your surgeon.. some

are obstinate about " all " jewelry coming off (or, in your case.. out).

Good luck, & keep us informed .

BRIAN, i think the best person to ask about this is your " piercer "

that put in the jewelry. they are the experts on this kind of thing.

my daughter took hers out to breastfeed her baby, and was never able

to put them back in. she didn't have to take them out for her c-

section tho. the x-rays, i don't know. it will depend on if the

placement interferes with whatever they need to look at in the

films. daughter had to take out all ear piercings for a cat scan of

her head.

If I loose it, I loose it....having surgery is more important...and Yes, it

can be redone at a later time. I agree, it is well worth it! :)

I just had a thought....it might be a good idea because if for some reason I

have to have an MRI done, I don't think metal jewry and that HUGE magnet

would be a good idea. I would think that nipple ring would be pulled right

out...the hard way. OUCH! :)

, you HAVE to remove it for an MRI.. it won't pull it out.. but

it will COOK the flesh around the metal piece. Metal is a HUGE no-no

where MRIs are concerned.

Do you have to have an Upper GI or are you just assuming it wil be

required? I was told to have an Upper Endoscopy with a biopsy for

H-Pylori, which is totally different.
