Hi, Ruth! I'm glad to hear from you, but it's a shame you are suffering from the shingles pain. I did a quick search about the nerve injections; from what I could tell, they can do an injection through the cheek. Results vary & injections may need to be repeated. They can use glycerol, a type of alcohol, or something else that basically destroys the nerve. Facial numbness can be a side effect. One site mentioned the success of Lidoderm patches; have you tried those?

This gives me the opportunity to remind everyone of the vaccine now available to prevent PHN (post-herpetic neuralgia), which is pain that persists after an episode of shingles. Anyone who has had chicken pox, no matter how long ago, is at risk of shingles. In fact, a high percentage of folks over 60 will develop it, along with the possibility of the long-term neuralgia. The vaccine is recommended for anyone over 60. I'm just 58, but I'm going to ask about it at my next PCP appt, because Dr. Baughman told me that it's not "if" I get shingles, but "when." Apparently another little consequence of sarc.

Hello Everyone,Again I must apologize for not being active. Tracie I am glad you mentioned Kim...because I have been very worried about her too. Was anyone ever able to find a phone number for her kids? If you can send me her kids names by email I will try to find them. I lost all of her emails when my computer had problems. Darleen, you are truly a miracle. I envy you your good attitude. And to everyone else ...keep your chin up..I know it is hard to do I am still struggling with the pain from Shingles. While the lesions have healed up well on my face I continue to have pain. My late husband's best friend is a pain doctor. He has been so great over the years with injections into my joints for pain, but this time he won't do an injection. So he is referring me to another pain specialist who can do an injection into the 5th cranial nerve. Anyone had this done? I am very worried about getting this done, but I trust Steve completely and if he says this doctor can help I suppose I should listen. I have an appt to go over my medications with my NP on Weds because they won't prescribe Lyrica because it is contraindicated with something else I am taking and I hope that is something that can be changed. I am currently taking Neurotin and it has helped some. And to think I was worried about the scars on my face when this all stated I started back on Remicade.. this time I am experiencing a lot of bone pain after I took it. I know that is strangeTake Care To ALL.... And a big thank you to all of you who try so hard to keep this site going!Ruth
