Guest guest
WOW Rose you sure have been busy. I'm curious about the trike/bike. It sounds interesting. Take a rest & get some energy back first. I was out today. Finally! They had a 4 hour "Sock Boot Camp" at the local yarn shop outside in the back of the building. They grilled out & somebody made the best baked beans I have ever eaten. I have got to get that recipe. They certainly weren't canned. I spent so much time talking & eating I didn't get the little sock ornament we were making for practice finished. Does anyone else knit? It calms me down but tonight I'm just plain worn out. Socks will have to wait til Monday. Tomorrow we're having a birthday party for the older grandson. He'll be 17 on July 4th but my daughter doesn't want family out on the highway then. My back aches but my mind is happy! grannylunatic@... Guest guest
Rose-girl, You amaze me! hugs S.Rose wrote: Whew! I'm alone in my house (except the dogs & cats). Since last Saturday, I've had (13) & Jon (almost 6) all of the time, plus Brannon (11) half the weekend & most of the day Wed., babysat Gwyn (6) & Trent, the human Energizer Bunny (going on 4) Monday & Wed. evenings. Mon-Fri I took Jon to a day camp about 25 mi. away, which amounted to nearly 4 hrs. of travel each day, by the time I got him in his carseat, checked him in at camp, talked to the counselors, etc. It was worth it, because he had a great time & I think he needed the experience of being away from family all day, to prepare him for school this fall, but most days I just slept the five hours between trips. Except Wed., when I took & Brannon kayaking! I was exhausted, but it was great fun. We had a minor tragedy; had 2 gerbils, which were attacking each other, so I took one. Got a cage & all the stuff & she brought him on Sat. I named him Bruno & thought he was safe on a table in the living room. But Mon. when I got back from getting Jon, the cage was in pieces on the floor & Bruno nowhere to be found. I really thought that he had run under the sofa or something. Years ago when we had gerbils, they would get away now & then and hide somewhere. We would lure them out with paper towel tubes; they love those things. So even though the kids were worried, I really figured he was fine. Annie the dog had shown interest in him, but would just lick his face when we held him. B.J., on the other hand, tries to gulp everything down that he sees. You can give him a piece of steak & he swallows it whole; never even tastes it. Once he almost swallowed a handful of screws I was carrying. But I didn't think he could have caught Bruno. Well, I was wrong. A couple of hours later, Jon found him in the yard. He was wet, not a mark on him, so I think "something" swallowed him whole & barfed him up later. The kids (by this time Gwyn & Trent were there, plus a neighbor kid, & ) were all mad at B.J. I tried to remind them of the "innocent until proven guilty" principle, but I have to admit, the circumstantial evidence was pretty strong. So we buried Bruno out in my garden (of weeds) & made a little marker. The kids didn't seem to be traumatized; they just kept scolding B.J., who of course didn't have a clue that he'd done anything wrong. Anyway, then Sparky the Computer got in a snit & wouldn't connect to the Internet for a couple of days. Finally, late last night he started cooperating. But the great news is that I got a recumbent trike! I've wanted one for about a year & a half, since I read about them on the Internet & tried one at a bike shop. It is absolutely wonderful. It doesn't hurt my back, hips, knees, elbows, wrists, neck, fanny! I rode all over the neighborhood. I attached a photo & a short video. I'll put them in the Temp folder of the Photos section also, at least the photo. Not sure if it will take the video. The recumbent trikes are currently fairly expensive, but as the demand increases, I'm sure the price will go down. The bike shop guy who delivered it & adjusted it for me said he sells more of them than any other bike now. I got a Terra Trike, which is one of the least expensive, but very good quality. I looked on E-Bay, but didn't see much. I doubt that many people want to sell their trikes! Y'all have got to try one; call your local bike shops to see if they carry them & give it a test drive. Before now, the only exercise I could get was water exercise, but I really missed being outside. I couldn't ride a regular bike anymore, partly because of balance problems, but also because my feet hurt when they are dependent, and so many other joints & body parts hurt. The trike is perfect! Well, I'm going to spend a few hours unwinding & catching up on phone calls, but I'll try to get online this evening & catch up with you guys. Guest guest
Thank you, Tracie, for calling Theresa. I didn't warn her, so she was thinking, who the heck is this calling me? But she did seem to take it seriously--she has an appt this week with an opthamalogist. She & her boyfriend Andy are also going to try quitting smoking, together. The kids are dreading the experience, but I keep reminding them of how much better it will be for all of them. Guest guest
Your trike looks like it would be great fun, but if I got in one I would not be able to get out. I would end up having to crawl to a tree to pull myself up. Have fun and I'll do the virtual ride.... connie --- Rose mamadogrose@...> wrote: --------------------------------- Whew! Guest guest
you have my respect. I have tried knitting and can do the at least 2 of the stitches, but instead of relaxing me I get more and more tense and finally get to the point I can't push the needle into the loops. It wears me out so bad I just don't mess with that one anymore. It is so beautiful, I am glad someone can stand to do it.....Connie --- grannylunatic@...> wrote: > WOW Rose you sure have been busy. Guest guest
I spoke too soon. Monday I fell in the bathroom and from my knees down my legs went to either side of my body. I went to my daughters anyway and by the time to go home I could barely walk. Tuesday I tried to get out of bed & both legs buckled under me & I ended up in the floor & couldn't get up. Once again I ended up in the ER. I didn't break anything or tear a ligament but I sure hurt myself AGAIN. My brother stayed with me for 2 days and waited on me hand & foot. LOL I felt like a queen! I saw the neurologist today & he is going to call the sarc doc & talk to him about changing me off Cytoxan. I finally feel better (except the knee isn't all the way back) and next Thursday it's time to poison me again. My neuro is supposed to call Monday or Tuesday. I'm praying for good news & a change to Imuran.grannylunatic@... Luggage? GPS? Comic books? Check out fitting gifts for grads at Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
I recently tried to take up needlepoint. I had a hard time with it as you did, it stressed me out and tired me out so I could only handle about 15 mins at a time. Then I have to put it away for a bit, and then try again. Guest guest
Knitting & crocheting calm me down. A couple of years ago my grandkids had gotten into some mischief at my house & I called for them to be picked up by my daughter. She asked my grands what I was doing. They told her knitting & rocking in my chair FAST. She knew I was mad! She didn't want to come until I cooled down. Sometimes your kids know you better than you think! grannylunatic@... Guest guest
I just started taking up needlepoint. It is kinda hard for me to see the patterns and stuff, but I am trying. I thought it would take my mind off the pain and other issues I was experiencing with my illness . It also takes up my time so I am not so lonely and depressed. I agree with you it has calmed me downl. wrote: Knitting & crocheting calm me down. Guest guest
I know what you mean about kids knowing you. My son says he knows when I'm upset because of the way I shift my jaw, what's funny is he says my mother and daughter also do it. Wanna a nice smile, I thought it was so cute. My daughters coach little girl cheerleading, and they have to get sponsor. They went next door to speak to my neighbor who lives in an older remodeled home and the front door has a mail slot. My daughter says she knocked on the door and heard a little voice saying "hello", "hello". She looked every where and then saw them. Little fingers sticking out of the mailslot and little eyes looking out. The neighbors two year old had answered the door. Her daddy says he doesn't need a doorbell. wrote: Knitting & crocheting calm me down.
