Guest guest
One of the biggest questions that we find ourself asking is whether herbal medicines will work on sarcoidosis. One thing I really want to stress is that none of us are MD's. We are all people trying to educate ourself on what things can help. Since this is an AUTO-IMMUNE DISEASE this means that our immune system thinks our body is the enemy. So it sends out the white cells that fight infection. Then it sends out the cells (TNF-a and TNF-b cell proteins) that are to clear out the white cells and return our bodies to normal healthy function. Something triggered our bodies to start the immune process. Something else triggered the switch to clear out the left over white cells, but this function went array. The switch doesn't get turned off as it should. If you start adding immune enhancing medications, you are telling an over-active immune system to become even stronger. This would be excellent if our bodies where like most people. But in us, this just keeps this over activity going. This is why we end up on immuno-suppressive therapy. By slowing or eliminating the response of the immune system, our body stops attacking the healthy organs. At least that is the medical scientists take on what needs to happen. There is a couple of medical professions that deal with natural remedies and herbals. This is the D.O. Doctor of Osteopathy, and N.D. Naturopathic Doctor. I do know that D.O. are also M.D's. Many of them are also D.C.'s Doctor of Chiropractic. I honestly don't know a lot about N.D.'s. I'm not sure what kind of schooling they go thru. I do know that one of the owners of our local Natural Produce and Meat Market has done a tremendous amount of travel and study in the field. This is the kind of naturopath that I trust. It would be a serious mistake to start to try to use over the counter herbals without consulting with a pharmacist, because we don't know what herbs will interact with prescription drugs you are on. I have always been one to thoroughly research and personally try any of the suggestions that I share with all of you. I don't want to see any of us get sicker because of a suggestion, from people we don't know and that may not have a clear picture of what systemic and neurosarcoidosis does to each of us. So please, whatever choices you make in your treatment-- study, research, and ask questions of your pharmacists, your local naturopaths, dieticians, and doctors. By taking control and educating yourself on these issues, you can feel better, and more empowered towards you personal health issues.
