First it was inability to sleep because of the pain waking me during the night. Once I started regular pain medication, then it was the extremely horrific nightmares I'd frequently have which would wake me up in absolute terror. Then for three months I was getting up 5 times a night to pee, unaware that diabetes had set in. Now, for the last 10 months since I started insulin, it's been extreme night sweats, which cause me to wake, with clothing, sheets, mattress pad and pillow absolutely soaked! This happens every darn night now and leaves me exhausted when I wake. It's very common for me to be up at 3 or 4 in the morning each night. Yet I DO take naps. I have to, to catch up. At first I avoided the naps, thinking it would help me to sleep better at night, but it didn't. But I've found myself so sleep deprived that if I don't nap, I end up falling asleep at really inopportune times, like sitting in the airport waiting for a flight (I did that coming home from the Symposium and almost missed my flight), or while sitting at the drafting board or while sitting in my doctor's office waiting for my appointment. Have you tried taking naps during the day, or are you unable to? I don't know if this is a CP related problem or not, but I did want to let you know that you aren't the only one. I have heard a lot of members talk about sleep medications that they take, and guess I should ask my doctor if this would help. How about you, have you talked to your doctor about it? I would love to find an answer. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth hhessgriffeth@... South Carolina SC and SE Regional Representative PAI, Intl. Guest guest
I have had trouble sleeping since I got sick too. I wonder if it is just part of CP? I used to sleep really sound, but now I'm lucky if I can sleep 2 hours straight. It seems to get worse as the CP progresses. I used to think that the Prozac I take was causing it but when I was off of it for 11 months there was no difference. I also used to get horrible nightmares while on MS Contin but no problems with that on methadone. It would be interesting to know if insomnia is a symptom of CP. Hugs to everyone! Guest guest
Not sure if any of you have this situation. But I notice when I sleep I wake up and I am so tired and foggy headed. IF I take 2 advil or if I have had a glass of wine or a drink at an occasion I wake up feeling refreshed and have energy. I have not been able to figure out this connection. I have had a sleep study and awaiting results but I have done this time and again and it ends up the same way. I am not sure why this happens. Thanks Kat
Guest guest
Hi Kat, I just could not help but send you a reply to your e-mail. My sister and I both suffer from the awful morning brain fog and feeling like...well you know what. For me it is eating 4 walnut halves, 10 montmorency pie cherries, and drinking a cup of coffee at bedtime, to help with falling asleep and also the waking up refreshed each morning. I have found by research online that my adrenal glands are not functioning correctly and coffee is listed as a sleep aid on these medical sites... as the coffee actually puts adrenal depressed people to sleep not the other way around. The cherries & walnuts seem to decrease inflamations because they contain some interesting "stuff"and also contain natural melatonin. I have been consuming the 3 foods/drink for about 2 years now and notice if I forget or am out of one or more of the above the effect hits me the next morning; Bang! right back with waking up tired and fuzzy headed again...yeh! what and addication to have. Guest guest
Kat, where do you get montmorency cherries? I've not seen anything but bing cherries in my grocery stores. Guest guest
It is in the health food store and sold in the refrigerated section. It is liquid and you take 2 Tablespoons to regular water or juice etc and drink it every day. I am going to do a trial of it to see how it works.Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com. Guest guest
Clare, I just started the montmorency cherry juice a few nights ago and I feel so much better in being alert. I can't figure it out. What is it? It is 2 Tbsp of juice concentrate to 5 or 7 oz of water or juice and it is quite good. I was taking it to see if it would help with arthritis pain. I can't figure this out. My rheumatologist had told me to have a glass of wine or 2 advil before going to bed to sleep better and he is right. I was trying to figure out why this has anything to do with it. Guest guest
Thanks Terri. I know that as I know enough medical. I just can't figure out why I sleep better if I have one or the other. I sleep perfectly fine. It is just that something must be missing while I sleep when I don't take it. I don't always take it but the last week my feet have been killing me from wearing flip flops and I am on my feet constantly all day at work and when I get home. Back to the tennis shoes. Guest guest
Kat, Just a quick reminder not to take the advil and drink the wine together. This can cause liver damage. I know of a girl who used to take a couple of advil after her nightly glass of wine because it gave her a headache. Low and behold, her liver function tests were crazy. She gave up the advil and wine and her liver is fine. One or the other; just don't do both. Guest guest
Hi Kat, I envy folks who can take those pain reducers such as advil as my system appears not to handle them like it should so that is why I use natural remedies like tart (montmorency) cherries, my friends and relatives prefer the juice. I actually bought several montmorency cherry trees from the nursery here in Washington state and this year I harvested my first crop from those trees as well as from old tart cherry trees that have been on the place forever...I think. I just pit and flash freeze flat in pans. Then later dump them into freezer bags. That way I can count out 10 per night to enjoy. They are on the tart side but run through my tiny oster grinder and some cinnamon, sweet leaf stevia, cold coffee, a drop or two of almond extract added it makes a nice smoothie. I was eating dried montmorency cherries that I bought off of the internet but I realized there was too much sugar for me so now it is just the cherry itself. This site is one of several that tells about the melatonin found in the montmorency type pie cherry and the benefits achieved. http://www.mi-cherries.com/melatonin.htm Sincerely, Clarekatskreations1@... wrote: Thanks Terri.
