Guest guest
I've been having increasing problems with dry eyes, despite taking Restasis, using ointment at night, and artificial tears all day. My doctor is considering plugs in the tear ducts. I know some of you have had this done. Can you tell me about your experience, especially long-term benefits? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Rose,My eye dr placed "temporary" plugs and they worked great. Tracie is the expert on all things eye related so I will defer to her.Blessings,BeckyRose wrote: I've been having increasing problems with dry eyes, despite taking Restasis, using ointment at night, and artificial tears all day. Guest guest
Rose, My eye dr told me that the sarc was destroying my lacramal glands. So, they actually burned my ducts closed. It only hurt to numb it, and that was all. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Lynne, I'm curious about the symptoms you had with the sarc in the lacrimal gland. My eye with sarc tears all the time to the point that I get chapped rings around the eye. My ophthamologist just say I have a dry eye so it tears to protect it, but the drops don't help, they just add more water. I literally can't look down withoput my glasses getting wet. This is so annoying because I look like I'm crying all day, just in one eye. People look at me weird at work. Bonnie BGet a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com. Guest guest
Rose Somewhere in the old days, I did a post on Lacrimal Tear Ducts, or it could be under Punctum plugs. Dr. Nis did a lot of the tear duct implants, and they seemed to work very well in most of his patients. They can use a temporary trial plug, then if that works, put in the permanent ones. They are a latex soft plug, and from what patients told us, you don't even know they are there. They just block the normal tears from running down the lacrimal tube, and that helps keep the tears lubing up the eyes. YOu'll still need the drops and gel at night-- but with the Restasis, artificial tears and gel- you should be seeing clearer and have a whole lot less dryness. Which will help keep the cornea healthy! TracieGet a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com.
Guest guest
Lynne, how long ago was this done, and did it make a significant difference? Guest guest
Rose, it has been at least 10 years, and yes, it has made a significant difference. I was wearing contacts then, and my eyes were always dry, but after the 'surgery', it was great. No problem. good luck Lynne Rose wrote: Lynne, how long ago was this done, and did it make a significant difference? Guest guest
Bonnie, I would find another Dr., as you shouldn't have to go through that. My eyes were just dry all the time, to the point that my contacts were sticking to my eyes. Thats when he found out that my lacramal glands weren't working properly.
