Guest guest
Rose, This is the link to the online RN Magazine site. The poem was published hard copy in Dec. 2005. I was surprised they gave me an entire page. Blessings,BeckyNote: forwarded message attached. Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha! Play Monopoly Here and Now (it's updated for today's economy) at Yahoo! Guest guest
Becky, I just read your poem. It's very powerful. Did a particular patient inspire you to write it, or just the general issue of dying? I am a hospice volunteer. I've had a strong interest in "good dying" for years. Right now I visit 2 folks in a nursing home & one at home. I'll start seeing another nursing home resident this week. There is such a parallel between birth & death, even with cultural practices. It was maybe 30+ years ago that consumers began to take back some of the birth experience, with birthing rooms, family presence, choices, etc. And in the past 5-10 yrs. a similar change has been occurring with death & dying. Well, got to take my meds. I had my 4 & 6 yr. old great niece & nephew here this evening. We had a blast--played in the mud! We made a lake with a dam & a river, lining it all with red lava rock & white marble chips & putting pea gravel in the bottom. We spent over two hours doing that, then I hosed them off & put them in my hot tub to warm up. It was a fun time. Hope you have a good night, Becky. Guest guest
Hi Rose,Life experiences certainly influence what someone writes...be it poetry or anything else. I wrote this particular poem one night (nighttime is a physically painful time for me and when I wrote this I was still working and had not gone out on medical leave...August 2005) when I awoke in pain. I felt a need to express myself and began writing this poem. It seemed to flow out of me. No revision. One person may look at this poem as being about death...another might see it as being about life's struggles, etc. Our life's experiences also influence what we see/read. It was accepted/copyrighted within a week by RN Magazine but b/c it takes time to get to press, it wasn't published until December. I currently have a short story (fiction) being considered for publication with a magazine. I've written for the Florida State Board of Nursing a non-fiction piece via an exemplar...that was tough b/c also had to present it orally too. I've written a few other things but my most exciting piece is my current short story. My family laughs with me b/c I always say after watching Dr. Stanley (pastor) every Sunday morning on TV that the sermon he just spoke was my favorite. I do the same with writing! The two are intertwined for me without a doubt. God leads my way everyday. You are a great aunt...mud and water! That is really nice...those children will remember those moments fondly.Blessings,BeckyRose wrote: Becky, I just read your poem. It's very powerful.
