Guest guest
, Since leaving my last job in 1995 (re Neuro-sarc) I have bee doing volunteer work at a local GoodWill here in St Catharines, Ont. I often see people coming in just to look around...it seems people figure if they keep looking, they'll keep finding a decent deal or 2. It is nice to hear people are still shopping at GoodWill (and Salvation Army stores, for that matter) supporting employment programs for those who have limits to employment. Guest guest
Mike I've been a thrift store junkie since my daughter was a toddler. I didn't have alot of money and babies grow so fast it was the best way to go. I also think of it as recycling too. We throw so much away that still has plenty of use left. I sure don't care about being "IN STYLE" anymore. I was an unofficial volunteer at the St de store I used to live by. My daughter told me I touched everything in the store so I started pulling out the empty hangers off the racks. I also visited with the woman that ran the place. Unfortunately I am not in shape to do that at the moment. I also moved so it wasn't as convenient as when I lived 2 blocks away. That was a good thing for my wallet though! LOL I live in a small town with alot of little shops (besides Kmart & those big box stores) I like the idea of knowing the owners. It almost feels like Mayberry sometimes! You can count on me to thrift as long as I have a breath left in me. grannylunatic@... Got a little couch potato? Check out fun summer activities for kids. Guest guest
, I don't think we have met but I read your post and wanted to share a little tidbit with you. My daughter-in-law was just in Ontario working at the Goodwill and/or Salvation Army with a group of students and the Youth Minister at her church. They helped go through donations and sort them and get them ready to be put up for sale. They also cleaned up the park and were shown how to safely pick up the used needles etc. said everyone they met in Canada was extremely warm and wonderful and the teens learned a great deal about service for others.
