Guest guest
Well, I got temporary (collagen) plugs in my lower tear ducts yesterday. Those suckers are tiny! I didn't have any local; barely felt anything. She said that if it helps, we can do permanent plugs in a couple of weeks. Maybe it's a placebo effect, but it seems better already to me. I had been using the Restasis twice a day, a prescription ointment at bedtime & during the night, plus OTC drops at least every hour, and still blinking & having trouble with irritation by evening. I've used the morning dose of Restasis & OTC drops only 3 times. It's 8pm & I'm doing great. Hope it continues. Ramblin' Rose Moderator Booking a flight? Guest guest
Rose, I am glad to hear that the plugs are working. If I ever need to get mine done again, I will ask about the plugs. Keep up the good work! Lynne Rose wrote: Well, I got temporary (collagen) plugs in my lower tear ducts yesterday. Those suckers are tiny! I didn't have any local; barely felt anything. Guest guest
My eyes are really dry. I'm not making much in the way of tears, especially at night. The Restasis is supposed to help you produce more tears, and the plugs help keep the tears that you do produce in your eyes, rather than running down into your brain, or wherever. Guest guest
Are they plugging it to keep the fluid in? Are your eyes making tears? The concept behind the plugs is that it keeps the tears you do produce from running down into the lacrimal duct into the back of the nasal cavity. This helps to keep your eyes better lubricated. You still need the artificial tears, and for most of us, we need the Restasis also. What happens with ocular sarc is that the tear glands under the eyelids (top and bottom) become inflamed and scarred, and can't produce tears-- so we need the Restasis to calm these glands down, and artificial tears to help assist our natural tear production. Many of the meds also reduce tear production- which since most also give us severe dry mouth, etc- well, it all goes hand in hand.
