Guest guest
Welcome Candy.. good luck with your PCP! What I did, (well, actually, my sister-in-law did, since we had the same doctor and we are having the MGB the same day) was to drop the MGB manual off a few days ahead of time to give him a chance to read it before my appointment. When I got there, he had read it, and was very supportive. That might be a good idea, if you have time to do that before your appointment. If not, you can always switch to your friend's PCP. I am assuming he would support you, if he supported Claire. Good luck, we will all be rooting for you! Deb in IL leaving for Durham tomorrow! Please, tell her I said Hello and I haven't forgot her and how glad I am she is doing so well. She is a wealth of information for you!!! My name is Cathy Morrow. I live in Lenoir, NC. I'm 45 yrs. old. 5 feet tall, weight 216.5 lbs. and have a BMI of 42. My sister Kim had this surgery on May 12th and is doing really well. She has lost around 40 lbs. and basically eats what she wants other than sweets, I think they bother her a little. I'm still trying to get insurance approval so I keep plugging and plodding along with everyone's help, especially T. who is trying to help me with my Ins. problems (bless her heart). Guest guest
Welcome Candy, Glad to have you in the group. I'm from Alabama and pre-op myself, but have recently gotten insurane approval. Like you I didn't have the big name co-morbidities, but I did have high blood pressure and a family history of heart disease, atertery disease, etec and just didn't feel like waiting for these, before looking for help. I could send you copies of my letters if you think it could help you. Just let me know, If I can help I will. Dinah in Alabama > Hi, > My name is Candy and I live in Melbourne, Florida. I am 31 yrs old and am ft 7in tall with a weight around 350. I haven't weighed myself in several months so am unsure of the exact number. I like all of you have dieted for as long as I can remember and have only managed to get heavier. I have a friend here in Melbourne named Claire that I met through Weight Watchers about 2yrs ago. She had this surgery in April and has already lost 50 pounds. I am so impressed and happy for her. I am ready to take this step myself. I am actually getting excited! My only obstacle now is my Primary Care Physician. I have an appointment with him on next Tuesday and hope that he will give me his support. I really like this doctor and hope he stays my doctor, but if necessary I will change. I need this surgery to save my life. I don't have any health problems to speak of except GERD and the joint pain and back ache related to my weight, but I don't want to wait until I have diabetes or high blood pressure or something. My weight just continues to creep up and I know health problems are just lurking around the corner. > I hope to get to know you all and become a post op soon. > > Candy > Melbourne, FL > 350lbs > BMI 54 > > >
Guest guest
Candy, My name is Malinda and I am in the working on my package for Dr. R. I thought my PCP was going to be a hard sell. I took the educational manual (you download from Dr. R's web site) ,12 emails from contacts an example of the PCP support letter and the letter from Dr. R. to the PCP with what's needed( I got all of this from the web site). when i showed him all this he smiled and said " Yes, I'll support you. " No questions asked. I guess he could tell I was a head strong person even though this was only the 2nd time I have been to him. Now If the Ins. co. will approve me I can be on my way. Lots of luck to you. Take all the info you can get your hands on. Malinda CandyKN wrote: Hi, My name is Candy and I live in Melbourne, Florida. Thanks annie Hi Annie, My name is Suzanne and I had the MGB with Dr. Rutledge on 7/17/00. I'm 2 weeks post-op and back at work. I'm still a little tired and have some residual gas pains that have decided to take up residence in my back, but other than that I feel really good. My surgery lasted 35 minutes and I spent one night in the hospital. I took one pain pill after I came home and that was it. Go to Dr.R's web site (www.clos.net) and you will find all the information you need. I was more informed and prepared for this surgery than anything I've ever done. Best of luck to you. Guest guest
Hi SueJ. Welcome. Sounds like you need less advice and more support to do what you know is right. I can't emphasize enough, getting the water in. I have just recovered from a virus that left me a bit dehydrated. It is no fun and very dangerous. I got out my old 32 ounce water bottle they gave me in the hospital. It is easy to lose track of your water intake and this water bottle is helping me.
