To: Happy2knowu2 I met by chance while shopping several months ago. She opened my eyes to this WLS and I have my first apt. with Dr. Gagner on 9/5. I have been reading what is going on in this group and I am being scared off by who now tells me to think twice about the surgery. She sent me the letter from Dr. Gagner and I responded. Please read. I felt my opinions were in lines with other more experienced in this situation. Was I wrong??

Dear Ms. Kalstein,

What is intolerable is your constant, persistent contacts by e-mail or phone to me and to many members of my team. You have to learn to use regular channels like everybody else. That is, come to regular postop visits and ask questions then etc.. Go to support group and talk to other patients etc...On two occasions I have told you to come to the emergency room and on both occasions you have not done so,Why not follow through and see him , his is your surgeon with adverse consequences the first time. I have never seen a patient so demanding postop, which brings the question that your level of anxiety may request professional help.Maybe he is right. Paging a surgeon has to be an emergency, not asking some ordinary questions. I even had calls at my home late at night.I wonder myself why you are doing this? This has to stop. I have thousands of patients and if this was a regular thing by them I would be constantly on the phone and not be able to operate and spend time with my family. Do not get me wrong, you are my patient and I have the duty to take care of you to the best of my ability. But this care has to be done with reasonable boundaries. Please make an appointment on Wednesdays to see me, ask all the questions you need, make a list. You also need to see a therapist. It seems as though all the others in the group feel the same way. Writing to the group for help will not get you better. It seems that everyone has their share of post-op problems but they deal with them.

Sincerely,

s response to me today....

.. Don't take anything to heart that she tells you, & count yourself lucky that she no longer considers you a friend.

Take care-

Thanks. I needed to hear that!

Eileen-

Its not you.. you are seeing the situation clearly. has

attacked and abandoned you because you see the sensibility of Dr.

Gagner's response to her incessant barrage of complaints. Don't let

one bad apple ruin the DS for you.. the fault was not with the

surgery.. in this case, it is with the patient. The DS is a safe and

effective procedure, and if had concerns about her common

channel length, she should have discussed it with Dr. Gagner.. not

wait until after surgery to moan & whine. She would not have been the

first patient to decide with her surgeon that 100cm is too long..

just needs to blame others for her failures.. She reminds me of

some of the substance abusers I saw when working in mental health..

and no, they were not all patients. Don't take anything to heart that

she tells you, & count yourself lucky that she no longer considers you

a friend.

Take care-

Hugs,

Liane
