Guest guest
Marita, I never had a problem with bowel movements until I was about 4 weeks out. When I wasn't sure and didn't want to figure it out by support people I would just call where you had the surgery and they'll get you the answer and what you should do. Went for another great walk today, this time we went to the SF Ocean Beach a little on the chilly side but it was refreshing. Thanks for the encouragement. OK now I have a personal question, should I be concerned, I haven't had a bowel movement since the day before surgery, so it's been 5 days (today). I know the foods I'm eating now are not fiber but should I be concerned. Thanks, Marita>> Marita, > It was wonderful to hear from you. Wow, a walk along the beach sounds great for a form of exercise. Like you I came home with extra weight I came home with 8 lbs. Don't worry it falls off quick. As of right now I am 22.5 lbs lost. It is unbelievable how fast it is falling off. Take it easy don't overdo yourself and get in your fluids. Talk to you soon.> > Take Care, > Kristie> > > > From: "Marita Spes" maritaspes@a...> > Date: 2005/10/15 Sat PM 01:59:42 PDT> > To: gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients > > Subject: Re: Holy Crap! Guest guest
> Marita I had my surgery on Monday 10/3 it has been two weeks today. In regards to the BM I think that is normal. For me I had my gallbladder removed also so I kinda had the opposite effect. Maybe someone post-op who didn't have their gallbladder removed can give you a little bit more information. But, from what I can recall alot of people have issues with constipation post-op. I know this is an iffy answer but Im sure someone else will post. Good job on the walk wish I had scenery like that LOL. Guest guest
Hi Marita, First of all, welcome to the other side! Now for your question. To be blunt about it, if you ain't putting anything solid in, ain't nothing solid to come out! So don't freak about the lack of poop. For the next few MONTHS, you might only poop a couple of times a week, and that's OK. If you find you need to poop and it's hard, then that's a separate issue. I recommend a generic version of Colace, which is just a stool softener, NOT the one with the added laxative (Peri-Colace). Also, don't be TOO vigorous about cutting all fat out of the diet. We don't absorb the fat as well as we did before, and we need the fat for hair, skin, and, er, lubrication of the output. Hope that helps! Guest guest
Hi Marita! I tried calling you today but your home line was busy. I may try again after I finish this post. I took some MOM yesterday and this morning I went. It wasn't a pretty sight when I swallowed that...a huge gag that I'm sure neighbors 6 miles away heard but none the less it worked. Also, Dr. Umbach said that it would be alright to take if we want to try it. >mwah gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients , Eleanor Oster wrote: > > Hi Marita, > > First of all, welcome to the other side!
