Terri-

I'm not post-op yet, but I am familiar with OR/hospital procedure.

Yes, it is standard to see your surgeon and the anesthesiologist just

prior to surgery. You will probably also meet the assistant surgeon,

and a couple of OR RNs. Make ALL of them aware of your wishes. You

will also sign the final surgical consent at this time, so make sure

that your wishes are incorporated into the consent.

Something this important I wouldn't leave to chance. I did not see

Dr. Hess prior to my surgery or at least I don't remember it. The OR

may be set up to do the lap procedure with the specialized equipment,

he may not have all the equipment to do both parts, and he may only

scheduled the OR for a set amount of time. I would call the office

and get a message to him right away, also follow up and make sure he

received the message and is willing to do the procedure open.

Terri: I am not sure how Dr Pomp does it on the day of surgery, but

I did see Dr Inabnet (another Mt Sinai doc)on my surgery day prior to

surgery. In fact, he was the person who brought me my OR release to

sign--& he asked if I had any last minute questions--I did not have

questions, but I did want him to go see my husband personally in the

family waiting room when my surgery was complete. And, even more

importantly I wanted to remind him that there could be as many

observers in the the OR suite, but I only wanted him doing my

surgery. He was very reassuring & was there with me the entire time

once I was wheeled into the OR suite & even when I was getting a

little anxious while they did the last minute preparations--he

expedited the process a bit so I wouldnt get to " freaked out " .

I do remember talking to people who have had Dr Pomp & they have

actually walked to the OR area with him beside them--thus, giving the

last minute opportunity for questions & reassurances.

I will be you & all of the others getting switched in my prayers &

wishing uneventful surgeries & recoveries.

take good care
