Guest guest
You can certainly start SCD while you are on prednisone. Raman Prassad wrote his story about being on SCD and he was on prednisone at the start. The only thing prednisone may do is mask the symptoms of food intolerance. It is not incompatible with SCD. In fact, being on SCD will prepare you for the time you can wean off prednisone. Why not give yourself the head start? Several people on this board have been on SCD and prednisone. It is great that your doctor is familiar with SCD and LDN, but you can start the diet as soon as you like. PJ > > I saw a new doctor today who I LOVE!! However, he wants me on prednisone for one week to get my current flare under control. I have never used prednisone before and am a little anxious. He said that he wants to try it short term and has no intention of using it long term. Also, He was aware of and seemed fairly knowledgeable about SCD. I told about how I had been on it, went off of it and now want to go back on it. He said he supported me going back on SCD, but he wants me to wait until after the prednisone so as to not complicate the issue. He also was knowledgeable about LDN and said if the prednisone does not help that he would have no problem prescribing LDN along with SCD. Fingers crossed!! Any helpfull hints for a prednisone first timer?? > >
Guest guest
I don't think he was saying that prednisone and SCD were incompatible, just that he dose not want me changing everything at once. He only wants me to wait two weeks. As far as LDN, he said he would give it to me whenever I wanted to try it, but wants to do a 6 day prednisone taper first. > > > > > > I saw a new doctor today who I LOVE!! Guest guest
, I went on prednisone because of a flare up when I was 16. It was supposed to be short term. Eleven years later, I was still unable to get off of it. Every time the doc weened me off I would flare back up. I'm convinced that doing SCD (& switching base meds) at the same time as the pred was what helped me actually get off of it. I would hate for anyone to have to go through the process I had to go through: going off pred, flaring, going back on...rinse & repeat. I also had a huge problem staying healthy when weened off it too quickly so I hope that your body responds better than mine did! I'm sure your doctor is fantastic and very knowledgeable but I'd really recommend doing the starter diet anyway. Both should help heal you, right? Stacey > > I saw a new doctor today who I LOVE!! Guest guest
- I was about to write the same thing: Its usually a long taper, lasting for a month. When I was flaring badly, the doc did 40 mg for 4 weeks, 30 mg for 3, ... to 5 mg for a week. In any event, prednisone is a great drug for the holidays -- eat whatever you want without symptoms! But, soon afterwards get to SCD and work with it. Happy holidays! > > I've never heard of a 6 day prednisone taper. I have been on and off prednisone for a long time. My Dr starts me at 30mg a day for first two days then reduces the dose by 5mg a week until tapered off. >
Guest guest
He's got me on 60mg for two day, 40 mg for two days and 20 mg for two days. He also gave me a bunch of 5 mg and wants me to call if 6 days does not work to discuss extending the taper. > >I've never heard of a 6 day prednisone taper. Guest guest
Well, OK, I see what your doctor means about waiting, but wouldn't that maybe apply more to being really strict and going back on intro? I mean, why not follow regular SCD and get started. I think the prednisone probably won't hurt you short term, just do taper it off. It's the fast dropping of it that causes the problems. At a minimum I'd be easing back in to SCD and not doing any major cheating.
