Guest guest
I'm in the research phase of WLS. I know that so far, Ds would be my surgery of choice. However, I just came across this term-"Implantable Gastric Stimulation System". Does anyone know what this is and how it works? Is this an alternative to the existing procedures? Also, has anyone out there had DS surgery performed by Dr. s of Scranton,Pa.? I'd appreciate any and all info. Thanks for all the support advice and true caring that this group provides. I've never heard of that or that dr....where did you hear about it? ~~* AJ *~~ BMI 59 Surgery date 7/24/01 going self pay - Dr Baltasar Spain Check out the Bellingham Support for WLS WWW.lookin2bthin.homestead.com

The closest that I can come, and I speak from experience here, is HUOA (head up one's ass). For HUOA, you also need a Plexiglass navel. Sorry, but I have been glum all day, and I couldn't resist this opportunity for scatological humor. --Steve -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 07/08 = 43.

Guest guest
this is like a pacemaker device, with electrodes that they implant in your stomach tissue. it cycles off and on and helps to make your stomach think it is full so your appetite does not tell you to eat. in the report i read, the electrodes had a high rate of coming loose from the stomach, so they have to try to find a way to make them stay put better. plus they are still researching the placement of the electrodes to maximize wt. loss. this is still in it's early stages of development, so it may be another year or two to work out the bugs.but for some of us here, appetite has nothing to do with why we eat. we are emotional or comfort eaters. it doesn't matter that we aren't hungry. we are gonna eat anyway. so this device probably is a poor choice for us. > I'm in the research phase of WLS. Jill, I'm not 100 percent sure, but the implantable gastric stimulation system that you referred to may be this new experimental thing that I have read about. It's supposed to stimulate the vagus nerve, which they hope will give a sense of satiety, and prevent overeating. My understanding is that this is very new and still very early in the investigational phase. There are probably very few, if any, actual humans undergoing this procedure this point. If anyone else knows anything more about it, please chime in. Regarding Dr. s, I have spoken with him on phone, and while he is very upbeat about the DS procedure, he has not performed very many of them as yet. He was that the ASBS meeting last month, and I believe he spent a lot of time there networking with other DS surgeons. His feedback page on AMOS has a quite a few patient comments that you might want to take a look at: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/mdcomments.phtml?N=944132635 _________________________________________________________
Guest guest
Jill, The Implantable Gastric Stimulation System is in clinical trial stage (as far as I know) to study its safety and efficacy. Until the trials are completed no one knows if it works or is safe. in Seattle Open DS Dr Welker Portland OR 1/5/2001 295/210 ----- Original Message ----- > I'm in the research phase of WLS.
