Guest guest
Anne, I was wondering about the re-immunization. He had said he wanted us to do it, but I thought why bother when they don't take. Did Zach's chicken pox's work the second time? Also does Zach have a port? they had mentioned that and it is something and I are not too thrilled about. We know of one friend who had one who also has an immune deficiency problem and his became extrememly infected and was in the hospital for a month. He has this huge hole in his chest now from it. So when I talk to them their experience was awful. What is yours like? What concerns should I have with it? You might ask about this - especially if you are not opting for the IVIg. (The IVIg would give him passive immunity to chicken pox, Diptheria, etc.). > > Secondly, we did have some success with prophylactic antibiotics initially with my Zach. Then things became worse and we needed to go to IVIg. > > I understand the concern about veins. One thing you might consider is a central line, such as a port, to be used for the IVIg. Many kids get a port for this purpose. Another option is giving the IVIg subcutaneously. I used to have a subcutaneous drip of a different drug (terbutaline for premature labor) and it was really quite painless even to put the needle in. > > Anne > www.caringbridge.org/wi/zachsam
