Has anyone else had this at 1.5-2 weeks post-op? > Terri: You are an inspriation to us all!! Thanks for the update! As for a DH who cooks etc, I was wondering do you think we could clone or copy him somehow? I have a feeling that and a few other DHs I have met recently might sell well at Bloomies! The drainage you are having is sero-sanguinous fluid given off as the incisions heal. It is normal, and you are correct that being afebrile is a good sign. Definately mention it at your check up though, and keep checking your temp until then. counting the days till 9/5/01 >
Guest guest
Terri- Glad you're feeling ok, hun! As long as the drainage is clear/ reddish/yellowish and has no nasty smell, its normal. This is all stuff that should have drained out before the drain was removed.. I had this to the extent I was wearing a diaper taped in a cupped shape over the drain hole (otherwise I was changing the dressing every 2-3 hours). It stopped when it needed to, & while its messy, there's nothing to worry about unless it starts to smell bad or look like its white.. Also wash the area about twice a day to prevent buildup of bacteria.. I would bubble mine out with hydrogen peroxide, but don't use it on healing wounds because it actually takes off the top layer of new skin! on healing wounds, use betadine (let it dry completely before covering- its the drying that kills the bacteria, not the application) or hibiclens, if you were given some to shower with preop (rinse this off well). Over my incisions I used the band-aide advanced healing bandages in a silver box. They look like brown rubber, and you apply them over the wound and leave them on until they turn white and get loose.. My incisions all healed really quickly, and are all smooth now. Good luck, hun.. Keep us updated, ok? Hugs, Liane
Guest guest
Question, Do people with Lap surgery have to have drains? Or is it more for open patients?
