Guest guest
< ...can you tell me a bit about it? how does it taste? does it work the same way? my husband can tell at once if I miss a day or two of the pills...I get over-emotional and grouchy, not what he needs on top of the problems stemming from the completion of surgery! Thanks for your time! > > denise in ny > dr gagner > sept 10th > bmi 62 > , I found out about it through one of 's (Mt. Sinai nutritionist) mentions. I asked my psychiatrist to prescribe it based on 's comments and the malabsorption issue with the pills (which there appears not to be alot of studies on, thus I was concerned). I believe the dosage is 5mgs of liquid to every 20mgs in a pill (each pill). Thus, the dosage needs to be worked out by your psychiatrist (mine had some trouble with the math and " we " worked it out at our last appt - he almost messed up the math, the monthly dosage, thus my mental well being thank you!). It is in the Physician's Desk Reference of course. It tastes pretty horrid. On the sweet/potent side. I take it in the morning with my coffee (kills the taste better than cold liquids for some reason) but then I always took my dosage in the am all at once. I have had some moodiness in the last couple of weeks but that could be from the error in my measuring the dosage for a week or two. I do believe it hits my blood stream faster than the pills. If I take too much I get lethargic (a somewhat reverse reaction I have had in the past with drugs that act similar to a stimulant) alot faster than I did with the pills. I have a months supply and my two refills. It has been less than a month so I do not have that much to report. I think it takes a little working out in your systems but it levels out. I started before surgery so I could attempt to be somewhat used to it as there will be many changes after and my moods may be all over the place anyway. My psych did put up some resistance wanting to refute the possible benefits (absorption) but my persistance prevailed since I really don't think it should matter to him either way and I pushed the issue. We did discuss altering the meds as my weight went down if necessary and again he wasn't entirely convinced that will be required. I believe someone mentioned here before that the gauge for altering seretonin balancing meds is really based on the reactions of the patient. I tend to agree. So as the weight comes off, if it is necessary I will probably know (and so will everyone else for that matter) and we can pursue changing the dosage. If not that is ok too. Hope that was helpful. Guest guest
This raises a really good point. What if you take medication that you know you will be continuing after surgery? Does the surgery change how you digest medicine, and if so, how do they compensate? I am getting very psyched about this whole idea, but the one thing that would stop it in its tracks is if I learned I would have to choose between the surgery and treatment for my other problem. This latter one will not go away as a result of surgery.
Guest guest
There are a *lot* of DS post ops who take antidepressants including Prozac. They have no problem with absorption of them and get along well. If any post op has found their antidepressant to be less effective after the DS I'd really like to hear about it. Others have posted here about doing the 'dissolving' test and finding that their pills and capsules work just fine. I have no idea of how came up with her info-- I'm sure she is very knowledgeable. Generally we determine how well a med works by the clinical results. If all the DS post ops had to go to higher doses of their antidepressants then this would suggest an absorption problem. I have not seen any evidence of that-- but and very interested in hearing about it. Please feel free to post to me off list at marym@... The liquid is more expensive (per the pharmacy at work) and is generally used for kids and people with swallowing problems. Have you considered changing to the once weekly Prozac? in Seattle ----- Original Message ----- > > < > hi sondra, > I am wondering about liquid prozac.. ...can you tell me a bit > about it? how does it taste? does it work the same way? my husband > can tell at once if I miss a day or two of the pills...I get > over-emotional and grouchy, not what he needs on top of the problems > stemming from the completion of surgery! Guest guest
I would probably switch to the once weekly Prozac. I'm thinking of asking my Doctor for it now..as it's a chore some days to even remember to take it. I sometimes forget for a few days...until I find myself getting a little grumpy. (Withdrawel?) However, that's a subject for another list. Thank you all for your opinions and advice. Re: Re: re liquid prozac There are a *lot* of DS post ops who take antidepressants including Prozac.
