Guest guest
Both of our daughters have central apnea (one also has obstructive apnea). My youngest has used a ventilator during the night since she was two because of repeated apneic events. She originally presented as having Alternate LIfe Threatenign Events at the age of 9 weeks whne she was found pulseless, not breathing and resusciated. She also has a cardiac pacemaker for Primary Bradycardia. The same mechanism that is responsible to support spontaneous breathing is responsible for spontaneous heatr beats. does breathe spontaneously while awake but the effort is very shallow. As a result we have to give her a 1 1/2 to 2 hour breathing break each afternoon to help blow off the excess CO2. Joanne Kocourek
