cyndi: mom to maryelizabeth, I am sorry your daughter is back on TPN. Both of my boys are dependent on TPN. Sam is 7, has been on TPN since 20 mos of age. Zach is 12 and has been on it since age 7. I am on a yahoo group for those who are tpn dependent and it seems that many of the kids need transfusions here and there - mainly any virus seems to send them to the hospital with low red cells, white cells and platelets. Only some of them have mito so it does not seem mito related. All of their docs tell them it has nothing to do with being on TPN but it sure makes you wonder. Both of my boys are transfusion dependent but for them we know why - bone marrow failure secondary to the mito. Sam gets an adult unit red cells 2-3 times/week because he bleeds on top of the bone marrow failure. zach does not bleed so he can go about 4 weeks without needing blood. If you'd like info on the TPN support group let me know though it is quite a chatty group so it may be way too much email for you. There are a few others on this group who have kids on TPN full time so you are not alone. Anne
