Guest guest
Dear Ro, I had a VBG in 1990, which failed. I am in the pre-op phase: just finishing up testing and hoping to schedule surgery ASAP with Dr. Anthone at USC in L.A. So I can't tell you about the post-op stuff. The best advice I can give you is to do your research and find a surgeon who has the most experience doing revisions. DS surgery is technically very complex, and revisions are harder. Revisions, as any surgeon will tell you, are more difficult and result in more complications than surgery on a " virgin belly. " Having said that, most people seem to be able to have the revisions and get through OK. It all depends on what they find when they open you up: how many adhesions there are from the former surgery, etc. Of course, I'm partial to Dr. Anthone. Dr. Crookes is also at USC and is experienced with revisions. I've heard that Dr. Hess in OH, Dr. Maguire in OH, Dr. Gagner in NY, and Dr. Buchwald in MN all are very experienced. Not all surgeons want to do revisions. I'm sure you'll hear from other people out there on this topic, but I'd advise you to contact the doctors and ask about whether they do revisions, how many have they done, complication rates, mortality rates, etc. For me experience was the deciding factor between several excellent surgeons. I dont' want my surgeon to be surprised by anything he sees when he opens me up! I hope that helps a little. I encourage you to begin the journey of researching the DS surgery. Good luck! Blessings!
