Guest guest
One of the goals of Terry Reilly Health Services’ farmworker outreach program has been to share our educational videos and radio stories, made in-house, with community health centers and agencies that serve Spanish-speaking populations. Last summer we wrote and produced a Spanish language video in collaboration with an Idaho production company and theatre group. For the last six months the Terry Reilly Health Services (TRHS) mental health outreach program has been showing the video to farmworker families in a variety of settings (parent meetings, classrooms, support groups, adolescent conferences and churches). We have been very happy with how viewing the video has allowed farmworker families to discuss a wide range of issues in their lives. The video, No Está Solo, depicts a farmworker family in counseling as family members confront cross-cultural adjustment, survive traumatic events, and negotiate the common challenges of communication, setting limits, teaching values, traditions and culture. This video is our best work yet. Creating it has been a community effort from the essays Hispanic adolescents wrote about the challenges of growing up in two cultures to the adult focus groups, where parents shared their hopes and dreams for their children’s future. Local Hispanic actors drew upon their own experiences to create the emotional intensity of this video. The production company and theatre director provided their services at below cost. If you are interested in using this video for your own outreach and educational efforts, please contact us. Note: quantities are limited.
