Guest guest
Cori, I'm happy you're back at work. Are they okay with your job for now? As to foods, even within the same office I get different answers. The weight clinic gave me the original list which shows 4th week, chicken. I've been eating it with no problem, but then this week when I saw the doctor, she said no chicken or turkey yet. I think you just have to try things and go at your own pace. I feel so bad you're having such a hard time with the food. What about other sources of protein, like refried beans and cheese. I started with that the 2nd week and it's been very comfortable. Lots of beans have good protein and maybe for you this will help transition you into the more solid foods. Peanut butter too worked for me. Hate to tell you, but I've tasted many protein drinks in the past. All were terrible. Then I went on a liquid protein diet through a doctor for 8-1/2 months. It was absolutely wonderful, but also very expensive. I've been told they have even better ones now. I was told to supplement my food with protein bars now, and so far they've been yucky, but I eat tiny pieces and get through them. I have some new ones that were recommended but haven't tried them yet. FORTY-FIVE POUNDS GONE!!!! Yippee for you! Just take it slow with food, and get yourself a protein counter book so you can decide on the best sources of protein for you. With the milk problems, do I assume you also have problems with cottage cheese. It's fairly high and easy to eat. Maybe taking it a little slower in your transition from liquids to solids will keep you from back-tracking again. BTW, I had surgery the day after you. Keep us posted to how you're doing, in between a very demanding job! Guest guest
It does get better Nora. I think I was four months out before I could eat again. I still can't eat a lot mind you but I can eat without feeling full on the second bite and without feeling discomfort. When we go out I usually order an appetizer or a salad or a bowl of soup so that I don't waste so much. Then I sometimes just share what hubby is having. I don't think you are really feeling hungry. I think it is the dreaded " Head Hunger " . I had that at first as well but over time it has gone away and I can easily tell the difference now. Head Hunger I ignore and real hunger I feed myself. Time does make things better. The first 2 months after surgery I so regretted having done it even though I was losing weight very fast. But now things have gotten alot better and I am so glad I did it. You will be amazed and the changes (both physical and emotional) that you will go through over the next couple of months. It will get better I promise. Candi update Hi all, Well I have been on Vaction at Disneyland for 5 days with my family. It is nice to finally have my husband home. My girls are happy and things are finally back to normal. It was hard at disneyland with eatting though. I am still having a hard time eatting. I am 7 weeks post opp. I throw up alot. And it hurts sometimes too. I mean when the food goes down. I know i need to take it really slow but sometimes i think it is not worth eatting because it hurts or i throw up. I have some good days. I don't reget any of this but i never knew how hard it is. When my family wanted a snack at disney i couldn't i was fine with that it just makes it so hard when you go out any where. I waste so much food it is unreal. I miss going out to dinner with the family. I just hate feeling this way. not knowing if i am going to eat and if i am going to throw up or be in pain when eating. eating is really unejoyable for me. I hope i am not alone.. please tell me this is kinda normal? I get so frustrated sometimes. i know my usband does to. he says this is getting old Nora you need to go slower and be more careful. I get so full so fast but then in a couple of hours i am hungery again. i really don't eat alot. I have lost almost 50 pounds so far though. i do look good..I was 291 at the day of surgery now i am 246. i feel good. i work out everyday. i just need so surport with this eating stuff. i get so hungery then i when i do it hurts or i throw up or i really only eat a tiny tiny bit. boy i think everything was so easy when i was on my HMR shakes... ok enough from me... Guest guest
I am so sorry that he is in the hospital, but glad that they took him quickly. It is possibly that his blood sugars were in the process of crashing after the vomiting. THis is what happened when had an episode while playing soccer. When a child's BSL crashes too low, the body automatically reacts by having the liver release its store of sugar -- this sky rockets the blood sugar. 's BSL were crashing at practice, and we gave her Gatorade. The simple sugar combined with the liver's release sent her BSLs to 460!!!!! > Hello to all, > > Just wanted to let you all know that went into the hospital last night. Guest guest
Ken, Great news about ! We stopped 's periactin about a year ago. He still struggles with weight gain, but he really has an appetite now. Last Sunday we went out for brunch after church, and he ate a 3-egg omelet, and potatoes, and fruit, and then he wanted dessert! This is the same kid who was fed mostly through a G-tube for 6 years (at least I think it's the same kid...) - Joe > Hi, > > My son has RSS. Guest guest
Hi Beth, His doctor has always viewed periactin as a short term aid. She been very conservative and limited in her use of medications. It took a lot of pushing on our part to get him on growth hormone than to increase the dosages. She has been a little more liberal with periactin but each time he appears to be eating ok she has been quick to see how he does without it. Since we have always been conservative about the use of any drug, this approach is fine with us. Also, growth hormone has some appetite stimulating affects on its own. So we are hoping that we have some how primed his appetite and are hoping it continues on its own. We shall see. We tried this once before and he slowly lost his desire to eat and his weight began to decline. However, his dose of growth hormone was much much lower. So we are going to see if this works.
