For several months I have been having swelling beneath both lower

eyelids. My husband measured the swollen area and it is 3/4 of an inch.

It's that way all the time. Any suggestions?

I have been using refresh gel drops for my dry eyes.

Judy, have you asked any of your doctors about this? I know that you've been through a rough time with surgeries, etc. Can you connect this swelling to any new drugs or treatments?

Judy,

This could be an allergic reaction to the drops/gel you're using. Was it a problem prior to using this type?

The other components-- dehydration makes our bodies, eyelids included--"puffy."

The other thought is that you have a case of "blepharitis"-- inflammation of the eyelids. One thing that can help- is to take 's baby shampoo and put some on a Qtip, then pull the eyelid gently forward, and scrub with the qtip. This goes for top and bottom lids. It works wonders. If you have the crusty eye goop (medical terminology again)-- it really helps to get that under control.

It also would help if the lacrimal glands that lie beneath the eyelids top and bottom (it's actually the conjunctiva that goes from the inside of top lid, under the lid, and over the eyeball, down to the lower lid and up to the bottom eyelashes.) that has many little tiny glands, these become inflammed (conjuntivitis)-- and by using the shampoo wash, you express the fluid that gets caught up in the glands.

It's totally painless-- and actually feels great.

The other thing to remember this time of year-- if you are outside playing around in the garden, and the pollen is nasty-- take a shower and wash your hair before going to bed. That will get the pollen off your hair and scalp, and you won't be breathing it on after you've rubbed it off on your pillow. (This is one of the best ways to keep your allergies at bay!!!!!!!!)

Hugs,

Tracie
