Guest guest
Here is a list of symptoms that appear on a brochure that I picked up at the sleep lab. It says that if you snore nightly AND have any one of the following symptoms, you may have sleep apnea. Nightly snoring interrupted by pauses in breathing (I didn't realize I stopped breathing- I was only aware of a couple times while first dozing off. I was diagnosed with 58 episodes an hour during REM) Falling asleep when you shouldn't- at work, while driving, etc. Loss of energy, fatigue Choking and gasping during sleep (this was another I didn't know was happening) Restless sleep High blood pressure Neck size greater than 17 " in men, 16 " in women Overweight Depression Trouble concentrating Irritability Forgetfulness Morning headaches Sexual dysfunction It also says that if you have sleep apnea, you are at an increased risk for: Heart problems Stroke High blood pressure Motor vehicle accidents or work accidents I was never told that I had to be tested as a pre-op requirement, but I had read a few conversations about apnea and saw some symptoms I recognized and decided to get tested anyhow. Hope this helps. Maggie
