Yesterday afternoon...following three weeks of trying to set up an Appointment for Abigail at JH I lost it. For three weeks I have been calling trying to set up the appointment that Dr. Crawford told me to call and make, and for three weeks I have heard everything from, "I will call you tomorrow with an appointment," to "We are going to send you an appointment slip in the mail"...of course we have gotten nothing.

So... I went onto the JH website and pulled the dr in questions email and his supervisors. I wrote an email expressing what has been happening since we left the hospital and in fact over the last year.

This is what I wrote:

Dr. So and So

Since speaking with you in June concerning Abigail's 11/06/01) status, and complying with your request that we follow up on the thyroid levels we have not heard from you, nor received the appointment date and time that you gave your word to give us. (FYI her thyroid levels were normal.) When we last saw you while admitted to JHH you said that we would follow up with an appointment in 4 - 6 weeks. Abigail has reached base line, and we still have not received an appointment from your office.

The appointment needs to be scheduled between the 12th and 17th of August 2004 for you to honor your word to us. This appointment is for the purpose of scheduling and discussing a muscle biopsy to be preformed at JHH. (As we have agreed that the mito biopsy is too much for someone of her size.)

A year ago you became impossible to reach, and you blindly ignored us. We have gone through another heart renching crisis with our child since, and this time I am not taking no for an answer. I want you to stand by your word and not leave us swinging in the breeze. Abigail looks wonderful now, and has recovered to the point before this crisis...I refuse to sit idly by and allow another crisis to befall my child knowing nothing more than we know now. Time is of the essence, after all you do not give "life insurance policies." This is our window of opportunity and I request that you not only take it, but in doing so stand by your word.

You may contact me at home xxx or on my cell xxx

Regards,

Misty (Abigail's Mother)

(I took out some personal info)

Now, I am kicking myself praying that this doctor isn't the kind to take insult poorly and put off seeing Abigail even longer. In person we have always been on good terms, but once out of site we are out of mind. I realize that my child isn't the only child who needs this specialist...I realize there are cases even more terrible than hers. I am tired of the cat and mouse to get an appointment. If there isn't an freaking appointment for 6 months why can't they just say so. If they do not know their schedule say so. I am so sick of lip service.

Sorry, I just needed to vent. Has anyone else gone through this? If so, I would love to hear that I am not the first.

Myst
