Re:Balance Over Time

I do a lot more reading than contributing Marilyn, however I

thought I’d offer something to this thread.

Balance over time is key of course, however for me fruits

and/or veggies play an important, daily role in my diet based on personal

experience. I went through a period of time last year where I wasn’t

eating many veggies and a smaller amount of fruits. Most of it was due to

convenience and lack of time – I’d throw some meat on the grill,

eat and be done and out of the house.

In doing so, I developed some other digestive issues (than

that which I originally went on the SCD for) including diverticulitis for which

I was hospitalized. To make a long story short, in following up with doctors

– with which I have a contentious relationship at best – and discussing

the SCD and the way I had been adhering to it, I was told to make sure I

consume at least 30 grams of water soluble fiber each day. That can be a

tall task and for me, the only way I can accomplish it is with veggies and

fruit in addition to nut flours, lentils and the like as I do not take fiber

supplements.

It took me probably a good six months to fully recover after

a period of maybe six months of being careless with what I was eating (although

still eating only legal foods). The end result now is that by ensuring I

consume enough fiber through the course of the day and adhering strictly to the

SCD, I have nearly no digestive issues (d or c) and am very regular.

Please don’t think I’m offering a rebuttal to

what you said – as we’ve seen here, the tolerable foods and results

of the SCD can vary greatly on a person to person basis. This is just my

experience and it may or may not be another’s.
