Guest guest
We start next wednesday. I'll make sure to let you all know how it goes. Pray hard that he just loves it and thrives in that water! I don't think it does go down from 12-14 does it? I could see it going down to 8 only because that's bed time and how many hours a child of 3-4 should at least be sleeping, but I would think, the 12 hours, before bedtime put them on, and when he wakes up take them off. I keep in the bar shoes after dinner and then through to after breakfast. He's not standing during most of that time anywyas. Let me know what you find out. > > > > > Poor Everett, now that he walks so well his DBB is starting to bum > him out > > > during the wake hours he wears it. Guest guest
I emailed Dr P a couple of months ago when Connor was 18 months with some pictures of his feet and he said he was well corrected and it would be ok to do 12 hours but I think I might just keep him in his normal 13ish hours until he is 2. Just to be in the safe side. They go on about 7ish and come off about 8ish am. I have to say he now can walk the room in his foot brace!!! But it doesn't really bother him having them on. He has his breakfast and then they come off. I think 12-14 is the norm until they are 4 or so anyway........... Guest guest
Hey ee, This what Dr. P wrote to us back in May when I e-mailed him regarding Zoe's bar time. Quote May 28, 2004 We have observed that after three months of full time brace wear, night and naptime for a total of 16-18 hours are sufficient to prevent a relapse. Once the child is walking about 12-14 hours is adequate. I see no reason to have the child wear the brace 23 hours a day until she is crawling. Straight last shoes are usually more comfortable and are adequate to maintain the correction. Reverse last shoes are not necessary. I.V. Ponseti, M.D. Unquote I asked him a few things, but you can see he said 12-14 hours when they walk. Maybe you can drop him a note and see if you can reduce it now. Like you said, it is probably more upsetting to see. Guest guest
I'm not sure it goes down much either, just hoping I guess. He puts them on from 7 pm to 9 am next morning - but he gets up about six, so that's three hours of the morning he's crawling aroun in them getting mad about it. I've become a lot more strict about it than I used to be, not sure why, but I am sticking to the 14 hours even if it could be closer to 12 with no bad results. I have to caution myself to not quit the race before we win it, don't take short cuts with the DBB. Just because his feet are doing great is not a reason to slack off - all the more reason to stick to it! There's been a lot of relaps stories on here lately, it was a reality check for me. s. Guest guest
OK, thanks for that s. Guest guest
Dr Ponseti reduced our time to 10-12 hours a month ago. I sent him a video of walking, etc because he still seemed to be quite over-corrected / duck-footed. Dr P's opinion was that his feet should have started to pull in more by this age. He told us to reduce the angle to about 50 deg and reduce wear time to night only, 10-12 hours. He also said that will wear them till he is 3, but I will certainly check that out carefully with him when it gets to around that time to make sure it's safe. will be two in 10 days time, we are planning a big party! and 24th Jan 2003, bilateral cf www.clubfoot.co.za Re: Fw: OK, thanks for that s. Guest guest
Poor baby, your right it must be such a heartache to see him struggle to do something and not be able. Soon enough he'll be doing that and more DDB free! KK > > > Poor Everett, now that he walks so well his DBB is starting to bum him out > > during the wake hours he wears it.
