I'm not sure if you are meaning Menningitis. Menningitis (Men-in-Jy-tis) is

a SEVERE infection that makes it into the menniges of the brain/spinal cord.

That is the tissue around the brain/spine. People can die from it, easily.

I'v never heard of anyone losing limbs because of it though.
